I think a lot of you know that John "Inamar" Monetta passed away a few weeks ago.

It took a while to get the family to produce an obituary. There seems to be a "divide" in the family and some frustration on the side that has been communicating with us. I'm just grateful that we are getting info from them, and wanted to pass it on.

I knew John decently well from all the years of interaction on and off the board. I already miss his jokes that he loved to send around. I knew he had served our country in the Coast Guard and I had a very vague idea of what he did for a living after. But after reading his obit, I realize that he, like so many other humble people, had totally underplayed his very significant career. I sure would've loved to hear more about it.

His obit is below in italics. He was 69.

John F Monetta of Roanoke, VA born on January 14,1952 in Hicksville, NY passed away peacefully at his home on September 17, 2021 at the age of 69. John enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1970 where he served on the Dallas and was then stationed in Philadelphia, PA as Captain of Port Authorities (COPT) in Port Security as a Pollution Control Specialist. After his military service John had a distinguished career as a Marine Risk Engineer Professional working and traveling worldwide for INA Marine, Cigna, ACE Group and the Zurich Insurance Group. Some of John’s notable career achievements include managing a three year refinery construction project in Saudi Arabia, expertise in marine loss prevention and supply chain security, and as a sought after marine transportation consultant. John was an industry expert on the subject of transporting cargo into and through the C.I.S and was a featured lecturer on the subject at various marine insurance related conferences. He served on the Board of Directors for Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA Americas) and Vice Chairman on the National Cargo Security Council (NCSC). John was passionate about his family and friends, a generous supporter of animal rights organizations, an active member of Notre Dame Blue and Gold Irish Football Club, and loved a good political debate.

John is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Loretta Monetta, biological mother Vivian, and brothers William (Bill) and Frank Monetta. He is survived by his son Jeff Monetta of Ocala FL, his brother Christopher (Karen) Monetta of Wilmington, NC, sister Mary Alexander (Gene) of Fort Smith, AR, his aunt Delores Kelly and Deborah Monetta former spouse and lifetime friend. John is also survived by his cousins Sue Monetta Davis, Jill Hollamby, Ned (Kim) Kelly, Sharon (Dave) Icove, Kelly (Bill) Bowen, Maureen (John) Coleman, Jeff Kelly, Win Kelly, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. John was a devoted, loyal friend to many and will be missed by his family, his friends and by his beloved dog Snickers, who has been placed in a loving home.

Funeral services are pending. In lieu of flowers to the family, donations may be made in John’s memory to CGMA, the Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, an organization which provides financial assistance to US Coast Guard families (https://secure.qgiv.com/for/cgma/); the Sierra Delta Project providing specific training for dogs to assist veterans (https://sierradelta.com/?form=donate); or to Charleston Animal Rescue, a rescue and rehabilitation organization for abandoned and/or abused animals (https://charlestonanimalsociety.org).
