OT Big Ten

Hopefully they block the move, and that USC follows suit. What sort of right-thinking, god-fearing half-decent USC or UCLA fan would ever want to join the Big Ten? It's absolutely horrible, totally dystopian, and there's something really pathetic about it as well. As in nobody really wants this, not the Big Ten or USC/UCLA, but the almighty dollar is going to reign supreme in the end, and that's the only way everyone can get paid. And so two west coast schools and proud members of the far west's flagship athletic conference, are going to actually join up with the homely-ass Big Ten...

So I don't know what powers are available to be invoked so as to nix this thing, but hopefully they're able to shut it down....

I don’t think this will impact SC. Almost every SC fan is excited about the move.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that. These are football fans we're talking about. The older I get the more predictable they get, and not in the good way. Which is all the more reason why we need some sort of sane, cooler heads at the top to step in a put a spoke in this awful business.

So to repeat, hopefully UCLA indeed balks, and that US and its appointed leaders, for their part also come to their senses and cancel this horrible proposed move to the Big Ten. And meathead Orange County USC football fans will be just fine, and will be secretly glad they stayed put....

SC fans want to play in a better league in higher visibility games and have more money to support athletics. Not sure what is bad about that.

Strange that the PAC 12 is not a better conference; prime recruiting area and a lot of other advantages

A better league?? Try winning the PAC12 first.
We have won many Pac Championships and several Rose Bowls and several national championships. Many people and entities always want to compete against the best, even if they sometimes fall short.

USC has won one PAC12 title in the last 14 seasons, one Rose Bowl in the last 14 seasons, and one undisputed national title in the last 44 years.

Things have evolved, including CFB.

I will be very interested to see if USC can win a PAC12 title in 2023.

Whoop de effin' do for you, then. I think everyone else nationwide thinks USC/UCLA moving to the Big Ten as horrible. For obvious reasons. There's nothing wrong the the PAC-10, it's an awesome league. The Big Ten sucks, it's Michigan and tOSU, and I guess Penn St., and other than that it's no different or better than the PAC-12. The only reason you're leaving - THE ONLY REASON YOU'RE MOVING - is for the money, and you guys would both totally survive without it just fine. I presume your AD or whoever's pulling the strings is trying to play the long game somehow and thinks they're being smart. But that's bullshit.

But there's still time and hopefully the whole thing gets shut down....

"USC fans want to play in a better league in higher visibility games and have more money to support athletics. Not sure what is bad about that."

Outside of the financial aspect -- and I get that -- but, there are only 2-3 "high visibility" teams in the B10 -- OSU, Michigan, and normally Wisconsin (sometimes PSU, Iowa) -- do USC fans really yearn for USC/Rutgers (or Northwestern, Purdue, Maryland, Indiana)?

Well since you speak for everyone in the nation and also know the thinking of SC's administration there is nowhere to go with this. The people I know are excited about playing UM, and tOSU and PSU, having more people watch, better refereeing and of course seeing school athletics get more money. Even if we have to leave a league that is so awesome it plays its championship game on Friday to get people to watch.

USC is going to the BIG 10 for one reason, and one reason only, money.

Otherwise, the move makes zero sense.

Ohio State?

Try not getting pounded by Utah first.

Especially with USC all good now, there's definitely no reason for anyone to leave. The only reason the Q rating on the PAC-12 was down was on account of USC sucking for so long. Now that they're good again they don't need to leave. Hell for a while the talk was that Texas and OU were going to move to the Pac-10! Now the consensus is the PAC-12 is doomed because a bunch of idiot fans think so?

Wrong, the the PAC-12 rocks. It will only suck if USC/UCLA move....

Wow, didn’t realize it was that bad! And all the glory years of Pete were driven by scandals and outright cheating. Brutal run for SC and laughable they’re going to turn their back on the PAC 12 and run from the likes of Utah.

Has the student athlete been considered in this move? Can’t say USC ever emphasized education when it comes to its athletes but down right awful on a student athlete traveling home from Rutgers after a Tuesday night volleyball game and class on Wednesday.

Blah, blah, blah.... Oh that's so precious that you and your buddies are excited! The truth is it sucks, and everyone thinks it sucks. And I guess if you're a USC fan you have two choices: to think it sucks which it demonstrably, obviously does, and not be happy about it, and maybe even raise a stink about it if you could get your courage up. Or lamely make the best of a terrible situation like a bunch of namby-pambies and be all giddy about it.

Apparently you've chosen the latter. So we'll cross our fingers that in ends up falling through....

We did try... and failed. Fortunately, we beat a lot of other teams, In fact, every team we played except Utah. So your point seems to be you should only play teams you can always beat, do I have that right?

So why is it that is sucks? Who are the people you speak for and how did you find out how they feel.

Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Iowa...those 12 teams are simply no better than what you play now.

The Big 10 is Ohio State and Michigan. Period.

USC left for one reason. Cash.

Because I talked to every last person in the entire nation who's even a casual CFB fan and to a man they all hate it and consider it preposterous and highly regrettable, a grotesque money grab where the BIG TEN gets a juicer deal if they can get the two LA schools to join up, as utterly absurd as that would be. Apparently the only fans, USC or otherwise, who are stoked about it and consider it a fine thing and a wonderful development for the great sport of CFB, is your small circle of fellow USC fans.

Do you have any reasons? Unlike you I haven't spoken to every fan in the country but most of the people I have spoken to, even those not SC fans, think it makes a lot of sense.

I agree with some of that. I don't care for the transfer portal or NIL. League changes go back a long way though. Anyone remember the Southwestern Conference?

It makes absolutely no sense. And it makes doubly no sense to claim that it makes sense. It's effin' ridiculous, and no explanation would be required. That two PAC-12 schools with the Pacific Ocean almost a stones throw away from their campuses, would up and leave and join some sorry-ass middling sports league like the Big Ten who's geographic center is the city of Indianapolis, and which largely consists of a bunch of middling sorry-ass sports programs like the Universities of Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, etc., etc....

The very notion of a thing making sense, like the very concept of an action or a circumstance or a set of circumstances existing together in a sensible way, is deeply offended by this palpably ridiculous proposition of USC/UCLA joining the BIG TEN. It's what something that makes no sense looks like, and would count as quite an excellent specimen thereof.

And the PAC-12 is a totally good league, and fares well in all sports pretty much that it competes in. The only reason for this move is the relatively short-term payday. Otherwise it's so ridiculous and terrible that it crosses one's mind the possibility that key figures in pushing USC/UCLA to sign on for this were actually bribed in some way.....

USC in the big 10 though...just doesnt sound right or fit. Geographically doesnt make sense.

When everyone knows its a money move, theres going to be pushback and dislike.

Its not well liked nationally

So...no reasons.
What do you mean, I just gave you reasons. The Big Ten is like 2000 miles away, all the teams that are in it suck, and it could well be argued that it is a definitely shittier league than the PAC-12 all around. And the PAC-12 is your home, it's where you belong, it's where all your rivalries are, and there's literally no reason at all to join the Big Ten, and nothing that makes any sense about this other than the money.

Do you actually live this way? Are you this stupid and vapid when you're out in the professional world, dealing with consequential shit? We all know what a milk-toast you are, and that's fine. But do you actually get away with being this stupid out in the workaday world? I guess USC upper mgt can confidently expect fans like you to swallow unblinkingly anything they ever need to shove down their fans' throats. You can be damn sure ND fans, for all their myriad faults, would never take something like this lying down.....

A big part of it is money. At USC football revenue pays for all sports, not just football. In general, most entities and people value money. It is interesting to hear ND fans talk about loyalty to a conference when ND stays independent, so it has more control over things that matter to its program. The Pac 12 didn't even have Colorado or Utah not to long ago. Conferences shift all the time and seeking better money and visibility is a perfectly valid reason. ND dame will soon renegotiate its tv deal to get more money to help its program.

ND can command its own, non-shared, TV deal because of its institutional value. SC was responsible for a large portion of the value of the Pac, but when it requested a bigger share of revenue, it was turned down. The school considered turning independent and joining another league and picked the latter.

2000 miles!!! That is 900 more than traveling to UW and WSU! An hour and half more travel time in a chartered jet! I wonder how the team will survive. We have a longer history with many of the BIG teams than we do with some of the Pac teams.

All the teams in the BIG suck? Like OSU and Michigan? You mean like half the teams in the playoffs?

I did fine in the workaday world. I appreciate your interest.

You statements that it doesn't makes sense and anyone who disagrees is stupid aren't reasons, they are tantrums.

A big part? It's 100%%% because of cash. It certainly isn't to align yourself with Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue, and Michigan State.

I don't think that is true The Pac-12 is a low visibility poorly run league. SC was considering options before the large TV contract was even considered. I think a large part is accurate.

UCLA move approved by the Regents

Oh boy, you must be so excited! So what are you going to pack for your first big road game to Purdue? Better pack a sweater, it could get chilly!

I figured one autumn road trip to bumfck Indiana every other year would be more than enough for the average USC fan, but you guys are going to be up for that shit three, four or five times every year! And that's not even including the biennial jaunt to South Bend.

'Cause you in the Big Ten now, son! With the rest of them rednecks.....

Not a problem. I was born in Indiana and raised in Michigan. Many of us are looking forward to the travel. Much better than the visit to Moscow Idaho. Also, not all SC fans live in California.

As to being excited, you are investing more emotion into the move than most SC fans I know.
