Helluva DC hire getting Jim Leavitt. Meanwhile, ND gets a second-rate guy.

I don't believe ND has hired a D-Cord yet? and it's premature to call him second rate.

WF held Duke to 14 points, ND surrendered 34. Comparable results against Army. The only common opponent WF D did not out perform ND was NC-State, but had WF played in Hurricane Mathew they would have shut them out.

Jim Levitt was also dismissed from USF for mistreating players I believe
Look up the numbers from before and after UC hired him. Staggering difference on defense.

I've heard that it was pure bs and lies as to why he was fired at USF.

Ouch. Bringing Duke into the conversation proves ND is a second-rate program now.

In all of Wake's big games this season they lost by double digits. I wouldn't touch any assistant from WF right now with what's going on there.

I'm going on football scoop saying its a done deal- Elko to ND.

Football scoop never said it was a done deal. You are consistently wrong.

I don't really think anyone here cares about what you touch or don't touch.

What does their radio color man giving out game plans to opponents have to do with an assistant coach? Not to mention Wake has already said that their investigation indicated that nobody inside the program had anything to do with this epic betrayal of trust.

Notre Dame has not hired any assistants yet. I would imagine they would wait to hire everybody but the DC until after the big college coaching association meeting the week after new years.

Keep in mind, and this may possibly be in play for the DC position, due to the remnants of the George O'Leary fiasco, it takes ND a while between reaching an agreement with a new hire and actually being ready to formally announce the hiring.

This is correct. Background checks are typically less than 4 business days unless you are calling in federal/other agencies/organizations like we do with the FBI/CIA/COBRA/Spectre. Our investigations are known to eclipse other institutions by at least 2 months to upwards of 7 years. It wasn't just O'Leary. It was also the whole WMD thing.

Mark Helfrich, Oregon:
4 years, 37-16 (.698), Rose Bowl, Nat'l Championship appearance in 2015
Awarded five-year, $17.5 million extension in 2015
4-8 in 2016 - FIRED

Brian Kelly, Notre Dame:
7 years, 59-31 (.655), 3-3 in bowls, 0-2 in major bowls, Nat'l Championship appearance in 2013
Awarded six-year deal in 2016
4-8 in 2016

I read USF's full report years ago. The school's investigation was thorough, and several athletes witnessed Leavitt grab a special teams walk-on by the throat and slap him. Leavitt was pissed that the walk-on had missed a block and wouldn't make eye contact when he was getting yelled at in the locker room. Later the walk-on recanted, but other witnesses did not. Leavitt painted himself as a loving father who knelt down, gently squeezed the kid's knee, and told the kid he'd play better in the second half. Leavitt then said they talked about what happened a week later and Leavitt told the kid he loved him and they hugged. (Seriously).

The thing that seemed to bother the athlete witnesses MOST was that Leavitt was lying about what happened and wouldn't accept responsibility.

IMO, the last thing Notre Dame needs is a coach that lets his emotions cloud his judgment. And when they exercise poor judgment, I prefer that coaches take responsibility.

Elko did a great job this year at WF, considering the talent he had available. And in their loss to Louisville, the score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 12-10 Wake, before Louisville exploded in the 4th on what was probably a very tired Wake defense. And holding Clemson to 35 wasn't that bad either; it was one of their lower point totals this year in ACC games.

ND already has a lunatic coach who screams until he is red in the face, they don't need another one.
