Ol recruiting thread

Everyone’s worried about rankings … meanwhile our best OL was not a highly ranked recruits … we’ve had several more highly rated linemen transfer out after getting beaten out. Let’s let Rudolph coach these guys for a season and see what we got. If it’s anything like Wisconsin we will get plenty of talented OL recruits.
Our best oline player is son of nfl olinemen and went through massive growth spurt senior year into college….. very unique situation… HS rankings clearly aren’t most important, but it is easiest way to know if your team as a whole has a chance

I think if you lose both fish and alt ya gotta go portal for a tackle … two completely green tackles should only happen if they are absolutely future early round draft picks like alt and fisher were/are
They might be, but this argues for playing time as true freshmen. Hope our offense puts up a lot of points and Freeman and staff substitute early and often against weaker teams.

AND, Alt was ranked as a tight end on a team that rarely threw the ball! We recruited him as an OL, but he was ranked as a three star tight end.

Without Lambert it will be the worst OL haul in decades. This was confirmed by someone that crunched the numbers on a different forum. Not what we need at a time we are loading up on skill position talent.

If I’m freeman I’m finding some portal OL if they can’t get Lambert. There have to be some smart farm boys in the Midwest that we could look for from Iowa, Wisconsin, etc.

This position really should recruit itself at ND. Rudolph is looking like a dope. Whether it’s on him or not. It’s optics. He’s going to take a lot of heat if he can’t close Lambert (who is really just a standard mid range ND OL recruit).
That's a bit of an over statement, 2018 the best ol player was Jarrett Patterson ranked around 300. this isn't a good year for OL recruiting. The number of elite talent is lower and the number of almost elite talent at ol if almost null. The vast majority of the class is either high floor low ceiling guys or low floor high ceiling guys. That's just the way it breaks some years. Lambert is a needle mover, and everyone else is basically a coaches projection of who will work in their system.

I could potentially see Alt leaving, then Fisher moving to LT to bolster his draft status,

Not unique. Nd has a history of betting on genetics.

How much he grew that late in HS is very unique + genes …. If he had grown like that 1.5 years earlier he would have been 5 star
Joe Alt did not turn 18 until February of his senior year. Boys are not girls, who physically develop much earlier in HS. 17/18-year-old males growing in their senior year, and even beyond, IMO, is not all that unusual.

They just made the same bet with urlacher, they did it with Corey Robinson, whose dad had a major growth spurt late, they like legacy kids from guys with athletic backgrounds... Collinsworth is another one.

Also worked out pretty well with Jesse Bongiovi. LOL! Seriously, I hear Jesse is doing pretty well on his own as an businessman and entrepreneur.
