The 4th and 6 on temple's last score the receiver should of been called for a false start the targeting call was awful, the last interception the db was all over fullers back. Glad we won but jeez..

I thought you were talking about the ACC

I agree. The 4th and 6, the guy never set. I felt the refs wanted to appease Temple because of the PI calls. Even though they were the correct calls to make. I know you can call holding on every play but I felt Temple was really holding Day and Rochelle.

I commented an extensive grievance against tonight's crew in another thread. Weird crew tonight. Temple was as "grabby" as I have ever seen.

Yes they were!!! Might be the worst I've seen this season. The Shumate call and then Nick Martin calls were horrific. Martin for pushing a pile was bad bad bad. Oh well the IRISH pulled it out.

HERE COME THE IRISH

Shumate call was rally bad - the WR lowered his head into Shumate. Then on that 4th down play the Shumate back up player #29 missed a tackle on the 4 yard line that would of given Nd the ball on downs - instead that brutal / shitty called ended up allowing Temple to score and tie the game. It is amazing when you get homered how bad things can get. Shumate would not of missed that 4th down tackle,

I don't know. Open space. Missed tackle. The defense has been doing this all season long.

Wrong on this one Jack. Shumate has been solid pretty much all season - a back up who was cold coming into the game having to make a play ? Shumate easily makes that play - not a cold back up in the game on his first or second play -

I wonder if Temple has shown our remaining opponents that playing "grabby" defense is the way to go. At worst it's 15 yards. Take your chances with the officials.

Agree w/ this - Some coaches do coach this way and it seemed that Temples mindset was to "push the envelope" on how they were gonna defend in the secondary tonight. It ended up working to their advantage big time as every "non call" or bad call went their way. Their coaches knowing they had "their league" officials probably helped them decide early in the week - that s how they were gonna coach it this week. It was brutal to watch how bad the officiating was tonight. We have had other games like this in the past. Sure wish we could have neutral refs -

targeting calls have to be reviewed; they have the chance to get them correct

Agree on Martin echowaker. The offensive line's run blocking was absolute crap all night.

Lousy call.

Sorry but that was the correct call.

As not just a ND fan but also a football fan.

If Weishar would have turned his head to look for the ball it would have been incidental contact or even defensive PI but Weishar ran down the field, seen the player and lowered his shoulder and bulldozed him and kept running. All this way pass being 5 yards down the field.

Anyone else wonder about that penalty against Weishar?
I was at the game, and quite frankly wondered about a number of calls. I was a football official, went to the game with my son, who is currently a HS Football official, and we both thought the crew did a terrible job

You could make an incidental contact call like that on every play of every game. Had no bearing on the play and shouldn't have been flagged.

if watched the db play of temple they grabbing shirts all night. I was surprised more were not called but sometimes the refs just over did some calls i just did not get it

the Shumate call was absolutely correct. The problem is the rule is stupid. There is no allowance in the rule for the opposing players actions. So if the WR lowers his head it's incumbent upon the defender to avoid hitting his head.

Officiating seemed terrible across all of CFB yesterday. But, the ND game was likely the worst I saw all day.

Martin didn't push the pile. He ran in from the side about two or three seconds after the whistle blew and hit a Temple player. That was a stupid play.

Glad we won so this would not sound like sour grapes - I watched Schumate hit when I got home from the game - total bull shit call - a call that could have easily cost ND the game .

BTW Schumates replacement Baratti completely swung and missed on the RB that scored on 4th and 1 - schumate makes that play - watch the film . I'm glad the refs didnt cost the better team the game last nite - God knows they tried .

Schumate makes contact with #5 and Schmidt would have cleaned it up - watch the film

I wanted to ask a question of someone who was at the game. How big was the ND crowd? Was it Temple loud or ND loud? I figured ND would take over the place but it did not appear to happen that way.

I was at the game and thought that the ND fans outnumbered the Temple fans. Temple was louder but that was to be expected since they had their band, their fans concentrated in one part of the lower level, and they handed out those long clapping sticks to all of the students. It is hard to organize cheers for the visiting team no matter how many show up.
Temple also had a lot of Philly fans show up that have never been to a College football game and may have not even watched one before. Many of these did not know the game and were extremely rude. It was obvious that they were Eagles fans first and acted like they were at one of those where the visiting fans are not treated very well. It was much different than what you would normally find on a college campus.

I was there , Temple fans were concentrated in the corner of the end zone in the lower level . I would say it was 70% ND 30 Temple BUT in the exact same part of the end zone where the Temple fans were the following two things happened

  1. Shumate got hosed on the call for targeting - clean break up of pass instead of 3 pts Temple gets 7
  2. Fuller was mugged with one minute left in the half on the goal line leading to a deflected pass INT . If ref makes that call ND is leading 21-10 at half - game over .
Like most here I have been watching sports my whole life and I believe refs get influenced all the time by the settings not all the time but a lot . Last night were two examples of it .

Take four points off the scoreboard for temple and add 7 for ND and it would not have been nearly as competitive a game as it ended up being . ND was fortunate they almost got corn holed by some bad officiating .

The officials were so bad all night that's why I had no problem with an ND man, David Grimes, voicing his opinion. Matt Rhule cried like a baby all game long on Temple's sideline. I never saw Kelly get angry until the Shumate ejection.
