While I have never coached football; I have followed football for a long time and have picked up a few basics:
It seems to me if you are playing a fast defense, particularly on the edges the offense must utilize some miss-direction on offensive schemes to counter the speed of the defense. I saw none of that by ND tonight.

When ND had the ball to start their final drive I thought there were 3 possibilities: they would fumble; throw and interception or miss the field goal. To be hones I had no expectation they would go down and win the game.

Why didn't Kelly use any other back? Williams and the freshman give different looks. Williams doesn't even see the field??? How is that justified?

Kelly said Williams played zero plays because of coaches choice. He was able bodied. So... Adams and Jones get 2.2ypc and Dex can't get a sniff.

Losing to saban's ball boy, not good
Wow, you are a bit salty in this and other threads, 711. Long night cleaning out the slurpy machine at work? Kirby have "relations" with you significant other back in the day?

Almost all of the ND fans on this board are great to talk to, know the game, and are good sports. You, on the other hand, are an orange-haired troll.

It was a good, clean game. Maybe UGA has a good year, maybe not. Enjoy your trolling.

He not a ND fan. He admitted that in another thread. He's just trolling. Never seen him around here until today.

UGA had solved our basic zone read, Long just wouldn't admit it.

At Michigan, in 2011, Lynch and Tuitt combined to play zero plays that night. That worked out well.

One of the standard lines every time we lose a close game is "Why didn't so-and-so play more?" This week it's Dexter Williams.

I would argue that coaches, even mediocre coaches, know who their best players are. And I'd further argue it wouldn't have mattered if we had Herschel Walker in his prime in our backfield.

Like it or not, in the grand scheme of things, Kelly is a decent coach. He could go to any one of 30 or 40 other schools and be reasonably successful.

The issue is more that his offense too often does not work at ND (and it will never work) and he is incapable of making real changes or adjusting in game.

Someone posted on another thread that Notre Dame didn't have the luxury to be square-dancing around in the backfield against a defense as good and fast as Georgia's, and yet that's what we did all night long.

We probably would have been better off running out of a power I to the strong side of the field the whole game. And that's what's so frustrating. Knowing that our coaching staff continues to pound the square peg into the round hole week after week, season after season.

That's a question for the position coach and the offensive coordinator. They make those decisions.

I agree with what HDK said above. Zone read works against teams like Temple etc, but not going to work against a team with speed on the defense. Should have gone to a smash mouth attack, but nope zone read, zone read, and hopefully your QB doesn't get killed.

Grabaka, you can be caucasian and still be a knucklehead. ND players are blue and gold, not black and white.
