So we got by the patsy. Next week determines our season. Regardless of what some of you think, 1 loss and we are done. We go into a hostile and loaded stadium against a bonafide contender with a redshirt QB. Is Kizer prepared and ready? Do we run Prosise 30 times? Should Kelly turn Kizer loose? Do we blitz? Do we play aggressive in coverage or a "bend don't break" mentality?

In short, if you are the coach, how would you play this game?

first. I don't think Clemson is near as good as some think. So I wouldn't think a win next week will assure the Irish of a good season. should be a tough game. but I view the Navy sandwich with our post Navy game history and USC following up to be the key to the season. get through all three weeks unscathed and we may be on to something.

as for Clemson I do two things. first I run up the middle with the running backs....over and over and over again.

than half way into the second quarter...and late in the third. I give Winbush a series. on both series the first play is throw as far as ya can to fuller....if that don't score...drop back on second down send fuller deep again...and run up the middle against a by now tired interior line.

You have no idea how the season would play out if ND lost next week and went 11-1. Obviously it wouldn't help, but it doesn't mean no playoffs.

Stop being so melodramatic.
well, lets think about this for a second. We are ranked #6 in AP and #8 in the Coached poll. If we loose, best case scenario, we drop to #11 or #12 in AP and #14 or #16 in Coached poll. We have 2 games remaining with teams in top 20. USC, Which is ranked #16 and Stanford, which is ranked #20. If we beat them, do yo really think we will jump 10 spots into the playoff? So in reality, next week is a do or die situation, If you are not sitting on the edge of your seat during every play then you are not dealing with reality.

We? Don't think so.

You irish fans are the most stuck arrogant fans that I have ever seen. We will be ready for you when you come to Death Valley. Go Tigers!

Huh? Irish fans predicting an Irish win on an Irish board make them arrogant?

Not enough trembling in fear of a night game at Death Valley for you?

Here's hoping for a good game with sportsmanship and no injuries.

.........and yes, as an Irish fan, I'm hoping for an Irish win. :D

Fuller has been outstanding; Kizer has not been a surprise to me.

What is a surprise is that all spring we hear about the WR's and the TE's being so outstanding;
SO, where the hell are they? Why no balance? Teams will figure out Fuller and other weapons will be needed.

Clemson at season start was better than the injury riddled team ND will face. They are still talented and will be a step up in competition.

But re the OP's contention, USC will be the determinent of the season.
Should ND lose to Clemson and beat USC the season still is in front of the Irish; beating Clemson and losing (especially big!) to USC would be very hard to overcome, if not impossible. And as side implications is the recruiting impact the SC game represents. Gotta beat USC.

This conversation is just silly. Give the men of ND credit. They are 4 and 0. They have done that without their starting qb, rb, dt, and te, for the most part. They have done that with other season-ending injuries as well. Beating Georgia Tech was significant.
Now go to Clemson and play well. If ND can run the ball and limited the turnovers to one or none, they will win the game. Conversely, if they allow Clemson to run well and don't turn them over, they won't win.
Win this game and take only one loss the rest of the way, and ND has a good chance at making the playoff. Lose this game, and ND needs to win out to have a chance.

Let me guess how this will go based on you criticizing the team for "only" winning by 35 yesterday. We best Clemson, then you come back and say they were not actually a "bona fide contender" even though those were your words because they have only beaten Wofford, Appy State, and an 0-3 Louisville team by 3. You call them patsies and u proceed to tell us we will lose to Navy and that USC is the only top 25 team on our schedule and that we might have trouble getting in at 12-0. Close?

Chitown,
Don't pay attention to any of his posts. He is a nitwit that doesn't have a clue.

as usual common sense not your strong suit. you completely discount the teams that would be ahead of notre dame in your scenario. many of them play each other.

Fuller has been outstanding; Kizer has not been a surprise to me.

What is a surprise is that all spring we hear about the WR's and the TE's being so outstanding;
SO, where the hell are they? Why no balance? Teams will figure out Fuller and other weapons will be needed.
no balance ? the tight ends have caught 10 balls. chris brown 16. fuller 22. 12 different players have receptions through four games. what would you like ? nd not to utilize their likely all American receiver ?

Chris Brown had a pretty good game.....and has had a pretty good season.

echo, go back to the play by play listing;

ND needs to get a more balanced attack (personel wise); when teams take away Fuller Kizer needs to be ready with other options. Those reception you speak of were for most part when Wim entered the game.
ND had the game in hand.

Fuller has been dominant; the thing is Kizer needs to be ready with other options when teams take Fuller away from him.

That is the point.

That was the example of a balanced offensive attack as it pertains to WR's and tight ends.

http://www.und.com/gametracker/laun...hool=nd&sport=mfootbl&camefrom=&startschool=&

Wimbush was 3/5 for seventeen yards

,Carlisle had five receptions for 52 yards, Fuller followed with four receptions for 57 yards and Jones had three receptions for 56 yards.

......and Brown had two catches for 34 yards. (eight Irish receivers listed int he stats)

look over the play listing. AJ had a crunch time catch, but most others were after the game was in hand,
(Carlisle's are the swing pass variety - forward but at or just beyond the LOS)

So, you guys do not see any propensity to being somewhat overly reliant on Fuller to make the big play?
And you think the team is prepared for the game where the D takes him away? Your opinion?

You take him away(safety over the top) and the whole field opens up. That is why he is always to the wide side of the field.

Looking over the first quarter plays looks like Carlisle had three catches, and Fuller and Jones had one catch each. Looked through the second quarter and Brown, Carlisle, Fuller and Jones all had receptions. I counted Fuller with three, Brown and Carlisle with two and Jones with one.

Too lazy to go back and recount, but looks like a pretty good job of spreading the passes around.

I really don't care about spreading the ball around when ND puts up 62 points. At any rate, we have several other good receiving options and have thrown them the ball as well

My point being that the Irish don't have to be overly reliant on Fuller to make the big plays.

Think if Fuller is covered there's going to be another very capable receiver open for Kizer to throw to.

My post was more directed to Pers.

There were 18 completions yesterday Fuller had 4 of them --22%

Basic math really

9TD' passing
6 to Fuller

basic math

Again, I went through the plays, and a lot of the receptions were Wim to .... after the game was decided.

Plus, I am pointing out a 4 game consideration. Sometimes QB's get locked into a WR and when that WR is taken away ....

And good grief, not another one ! your clan is unbelievable! join the rest of you on ignore.

it's not like they've been forcing the ball to fuller. he's your best receiver. you use him as much as possible. no defense has taken him away yet.
