If and when BK leaves on his own accord or is asked to step down which is most likely the only way he leaves ND. Unfortunately, He will not step down on his own accord - his ego is way too large to admit the ND thing has not really worked out for him.

The two best coaching candidates IMO would be either Chris Petersen from WA. or PJ Fleck from Western Mich. Since C.Petersen is pretty well locked into Wa. - I don't see him leaving there anytime soon. Maybe he'd be a viable candidate for ND in about 3 or 4 years - after he has given WA a good run.

The other Home Run candidate IMO would be PJ Fleck and with him growing up in Illinois - The Midwest is in his blood. He brings great, great positive energy - is a hands on coach. Players absolutely love playing for him. His teams and players are always very well prepared and come into games w/ more emotion and passion to play than their opponents.

When was the last time an ND team game into a game wanting to win and playing w/ more passion and emotion than their opponent ? Hasn't happened very often under BK. And rarely ever happened w/ CW.

He is a great recruiter - he has brought in the best recruiting classes W. Mich has ever had. He'd do the same at ND !

PJ Fleck will be a big time HC in College Football for a lot years to come - ND has a perfect opportunity to go get a home run hire right now - sitting right there in her back yard.

Urban Meyer started his HC career at a MAC school. Everyone PJ has coached for - raves about this guy being a great great young coach. A great motivator - A great leader of young men. A hands on coach.

Let's go get the next Urban Meyer for ND right now while he is in our backyard. Open your eyes Sawbrick - you have a home run higher right in front of you. Salvage your ND legacy while you still can !

Peterson yes, if he would come, Flexk is BK with less success.

BK is Not even close to Fleck - they are completely opposite personalities - Fleck coaches from a positive perspective - BK w/ a negative perspective - Fleck brings high energy - infectious energy - BK just the opposite -

Fleck's team are known for being well disciplined w/ little mistakes - he has a reputation for being a great game manager - BK is the opposite of all those things.

ND would be lucky to get Fleck and the fact he is in her back yard being tee'd up - will make this miss on him as great as a miss as Sawbrick will ever have.

Fleck will go to a big time program and do what Chris Petersen is doing at WA.

Who is the next Urban Meyer? To get an Urban Meyer type coach ND will have to take a chance on guy like Fleck because once they get a power 5 job it's unlikely they will come to ND. This AD is on his own. The administration could care less. Bk needs to hire an OC and a DC and sink or swim with the next 2 hires. When I say OC not someone that has to drive his piece of shit running game . The jury is out on Sanford because no one really knows if he calls "his" game. Denbrock is a BK disciple so he is BK is a Halloween costume. The TE/ special teams coach needs to go next. Other then that BK will be told you need to get 2 great coordinators. look for Sanford to leave on his own. That would the only way to go . I still say 3-9 but actually might win this week . Got a good vibe . They never get blown out because they schedule sucks they just suck worse. Down to the wire game Saturday.

The sad thing is that ND could get Fleck now - sometimes life presents you things on a silver platter and you have to be able to "see the forest through the tree's" though to take advantage of the item on that silver platter.

Does Sawbrick have the foresight ?

Or, is he gonna be too stubborn like his Head Coach ? Will Sawbrick and ND cut their losses w/ ND and stop settling for mediocracy ?

Chris Petersen is NOT coming to Notre Dame. Stop!!! We have a better chance to get Jon Gruden, and we have zero chance of getting him.

We've all been through this drill before. When the fans get down on the coach, we start hearing all kinds of names, no matter how realistic they are. IMO, the chances are overwhelming that Kelly will return as HC next year. Until he either resigns or is fired, both of which I believe are remote possibilities, it is all idle speculation.

Remember, BK was the hot ticket 7 years ago. Notre Dame wasn't his only big time offer at the time. I'm aggravated too, but I don't want change for the sake of change and end up with the same situation down the road.

I'm intrigued but don't know enough. He rescinded all of the scholarship offers -- weeks before signing day -- in his first year. Ballsy but...

Kelly shot himself in the foot -- and may have lost his job -- when he hired BVG.

If Kelly makes a stellar hire as DC for next year I'm for him staying. (After all, it has been a long long time since we were in the National Championship debate ('93) and kelly did that for us, getting us an undefeated regular season and a trip to the natty game.)

But I too have been frustrated. We had the horses last year -- and again, just kept coming up a dollar short -- maybe his kind of system is better suited for a Cincy -- a perennial underdog who has nothing to lose.

ND is different. Every week is a natty game. He was out coached last week. You play those games to win 3-0. As they usually turn on a turnover (like we saw.) Throwing the ball around and going on 4th was not going to work. Pin them back and take the ball away! Kick the field goal and go home. Ugh!

IB: very perceptive re Kelly

Don't remember BK being a big hot ticket - thought he was only ND's hot ticket. Who else wanted BK at that time ?

If you don't want change - then you must enjoy piss poor coaching and a team that underachieves.

If you believe Chris Peterson is off the table, I'd strongly consider Pat Fitzgerald. He has averaged 7 wins a season at Northwestern - NORTHWESTERN!!! He is familiar with recruiting restrictions and he beat Duke this year.

Fitzgerald should never be considered for the ND job. Read his thoughts on ND as he was being recruited out of HS. Wasn't a good match then and won't be in the future.

Fleck is the anti-Kelly. There is the enthusiasm, but I don't see Faust. He is my choice after Peterson.

As for the ND St coach, he needs more time. The coach that built the program up went to Wyoming I believe two years ago. The new coach has won, but let's see what he does when his recruits get cycled through.

No Matt Rhule
Peterson would be a slam dunk hire.
But I agree with the above poster who said Whittingham. This guy has continually had UTAH in the top 25 and always has his team playing hard nosed tough football. His defenses are fantastic.

Well, if we are going to discuss potential candidates when we already have a HC for this season and at least next season, why not come up with potential names for the guy who's gonna replace the guy who's gonna replace the guy who is already our HC for the foreseeable future.

And he detests ND.

Exactly. If people are going to throw out names of possible replacements, I really wish they knew what they were talking about. When I see some of the names mentioned (e.g. Harbaugh, Shaw, Fitzgerald, Petrino, Tressel, etc...), those posters really betray a stunning ignorance about ND and the landscape of college football in general.

Then again there are some imbeciles on this board who believe that anyone can be bought off with money.

unless there is an absolute meltdown (like 3-9), then Kelly isn't going anywhere.

However, in the unlikely event he is canned, then ND will have to look beyond the usual suspects. Petersen is never leaving the west. He's had multiple opportunities to take big time jobs over the years and has passed on all but WA. PJ Fleck is an up and comer and will certainly get a big time job for the 2017 year but it's hard to see a program like ND taking a chance on a guy like this.

If I was your AD, I'd take a hard look at Pat Narduzzi. No question MSU's struggles are in part due to Narduzzi's exodus and he has Pitt playing pretty good football.

C'mon, the guy loathes ND, and he wears it on his sleeve.

On what do you base this suggestion? His Cinderella season last year? Or is it his only three victories this season against Stony Brook, Charlotte, and a 2-4 SMU team?
I base that on as much information as everyone thinking oooohhhh, this guy..get this guy. Nobody ****ing knows.

Hilarious actually. The Washington team is having a nice year so far....kind of...they obliterated Stanford but then again what did that say about Texas, MSU, Duke, n.c. State

Stanford is having an off year..but now everyone wants the Washington.

Silly. Even more silly is thinking we are the end all be all job and we could have anyone we wanted.

Foolish foolish foolish.

The only way we can have that attitude is whomever it is will immediately be the highest paid coach in the land.

An urban Meyer type guy.....

$$$$$$$ and then even more $$$$

Unfortunately, Willingham has also brought Dennis Erickson back to college football.

I agree that names like Meyer and Saban are preposterous. I'm not suggesting anyone because I seriously doubt that ND will dismiss Kelly after the season.
