Karson Hobbs from Ohio. 3 star, not very highly ranked. His other offers are South Carolina, Kentucky, WVU, schools like that. I was hoping the 2024 class would be a majority 4 and 5 stars but after seeing Morrison Saturday I trust this staff with DB evaluation and coaching.

There's something that stood out. Notre Dame turned down 4 star OL Ian Moore. They are picking and choosing. Doing their own evaluation I guess.

It does seem rather early to take a 3 star corner given the top 3 class we have and #1 for 2024. They must like this kid unequivocally over 4 and 5 star corners.

I believe alot goes into the competition these kids play in HS. A 3 star that's showing a solid effort against tough competition may end up better than a 4 star that's lighting the world on fire playing low level competition.

yep, and we cannot afford to miss corners in this class. adding corners 24 corners to compliment to the '23 haul is essential. he seems like a good fit and likely ends up at least a low 4 star. now they can narrow in on the high ranked kids and relax a little about corner.

Much better than your evaluations!

What do you mean 'doing their own evaluations'? As opposed to...... ??????

You said the quiet part out loud. Thanks for the reminder of how useless the opinions of CFB superfans are. Do their own evaluations..... No shit they do their own evaluations. Are you the same dude as IrishBeer?

Yeah, no doubt. But you're obviously a troll/troublemaker of some kind. So just humor me, are you the same actual person as that IrishBeer guy?

Yet we have the #1 ranked class in '24! I remember when Kyle Hamilton was a 3*, the we offered and he took off.
Or maybe he won't be. He won't 'take off', but he'll still be a good player and end up being drafted in the 3rd round. Right? I mean that's possible, isn't it? It happens all the time....

Recruiting rankings are for fans to obsess over and build their self-esteem around. They have no other existence. Repeat THEY HAVE NO OTHER EXISTENCE. They are a consumer product. They're not a meaningful statistical point of reference, or some source of valuable data or what have you. Other than the people who compile these top 250 lists want to make them as realistic as they can make them so people will keep paying for them. So they try to make them match who the most sought-after players really are....

So, naturally, for better or worse every coaching staff does their own evaluations. As opposed to trusting to website rankings that wouldn't exist without their own evaluations to be based on. As the star-ratings are nothing but an epiphenomenon, I think might be the word for it, built around coaches' evaluations. There would be no star ratings without those evaluations, and the resultant offers that then go out. There would be nothing. The only thing that actually matters in recruiting is who the coaches offer, after doing their own evaluations. Everything else is just noise....

EDIT to add I didn't mean to sound confrontational with you, I just hate recruiting hype, and I can't believe someone in this thread was foolish enough to blurt out loud that since we took this lowly-rated player, then the coaches must have done their own humble evaluation. That's the only thing that could explain it....

again, i did not evaluate him, if you dont like him, tough, the staff did.

we did not offer 3 stars in 2023. it was a compliment to the kid. if you don't like him, too bad.
What?? I'm not following you. In any case, I think we're done here.

But good on you for keeping it real. The coaches did their own evaluations on this one, they must have. That's the only thing that could account for it. Otherwise we gotta get them super elite recruits, so we can get that #1 rated class! And you don't need so stinking evaluations for that. Just offer only the very elite, prestige recruits, and no one else. And then the fans like you can bask in the glory of it.....

Most people have him as a three-star athlete, but I have him as a four-star. He’s proven his talent against great competition, and Hobbs has the physical tools with his length and speed. Mike Mickens did a great job going after him, and he’s a really nice kid.” — Prep Football Report recruiting analyst Tom Lemming

He never played cornerback until right before his soph year. Hes very long. They say he doesn't get many balls thrown his way at all

The only think I want to watch film to see what type of speed he has.

But sounds like a good get

He's athletic but BEYOND RAW. He has a long long ways to go and as others have said, he hasn't been playing D long. He's long, big, athletic so we'll see how he develops.
