1. Joe Schmidt with 1 tackle = pathetic. It's time to get the frosh in as Joe clearly can't keep up with teams with any speed. Let him play vs Navy but we need some speed vs better teams (USC) that we'll play.

2. Corey R needs to be in the dog house. Dropped two balls, yes the two point was high but it was supposed to be, only he could get it and he should have. Made kelly use a TO, and had a TD in the first half dropped.

3. Kelly needs to self assess BVG as his blitzes are extremely predictable and gashed with screens and draws, ND got lucky a few times that they were not able to execute or it would have been home runs.

4. Not sure why we pulled so much, the O-line couldn't get their footing when pulling, but were awesom ein pass protect.

Robinson made ND waste a TO. Dropped what should have been a TD. And the two point play. Lets see more Hunter and St. Brown.

Time for Nyles Morgan to get some run again, I think. Schmidt was horrific. Love him, but he can't hang against teams with speed.

One thing some coaches weigh heavily is 'practice'; some players are not good practice players but are 'gamers'.
Without 'earning' PT in practice, gamers sit.

This is still within the 24 hours so yes I'm still venting.

Stanley & mcglinchey need to stop the penalties & holds & play better! Nelson then Bars need to get TOUGH fast!

WR's catch & hold the ball! Robinson--whassup??? Play Torii & anybody that WANTS to win!!!

Entire defense needs to get better. Need penetration...hitting.....tackling...ball hawks....LEADERSHIP!!!

This week will set the trajectory. If we WIN OUT we could still be a PLAYOFF team. If not....ouch.

GET BETTER. FAST!!!

I would argue pulling your senior MLB is not a minor change.
I don't think he needs to be completely pulled but Nyles need more time. There are teams that fit in perfectly with Joe, Teams with speed or a mobile QB are not ones he should be in against (unless it's option).

The safeties have to play better. Its obvious they are always out of position especially on those QB draws.

I hate to get on players because they play their hearts out but I have to agree with your assessment of Schmidt. We need to get faster in the middle of the field. With that being said we can't hang this loss on the Defense, it did its job. We lost the game because Kelly was too conservative. Read option won't work with a pocket passer and a stacked box. By the time he decided to switch it up we had to be perfect and mistakes were made.

I thought the D played its best game of the year.. Held the 12th ranked team on the road to 24 points with a shanked punt and 4 TOs. After that first 14, there wasn't much for the Clemson O.

actually, reading Kelly's post game presser,
1. he really is not the one throwing players under the bus; the fans are:
either out of frustration
or
2. those zealots that want to convince all fans Kelly is omnipotent, the 2nd coming of Rockne

As for changes:
yes, Schmidt needs to be spotted to play against certain teams, but if Morgan is good enough against some then he is good enough!
Robinson out ESB in
RO is playing because he, like some others are the best ND currently has.
BVG needs to return to 'Blitz Academy' for another 'tutorial'.
Also, weather permitting - utilize Kizers downfield passing skills which are very good; figure out which touch passes he can make and then work on the others. As far as learning, he is a good student!

Won't comment on whether it was the best game of the year for the defense, but they did play pretty well. Only 1 TD was a decent drive for Clemson; other 2 TDs were short fields (40 yards after punt and 29 yards after KO fumble). Clemson had less than 300 yards total offense. Turnovers made a big difference just as in the Mississippi / Alabama game.

The Kelly throwing kids under the bus idea is, and has always been, a myth. What fans really want is for Kelly to make excuses for players poor play, and he doesn't do that.

Never head Kelly once throw a player under the bus. However I know a few posters I would love to see thrown under the bus.

Lead back running game please God! And not the RB leading for the QB.

something like this

How about Corey Holmes or Justin Brent before we start using true freshmen? They were both 4 stars. On D, I think more subs and true linebackers getting more time would raise everyone's level of play. I think Kelly should stop over lecturing his players during the game. He was In Sanders face for a while. Work out the kinks in practice and encourage during the game. It was an unexpected helmet on the ball. Same thing with Kizer figure it out during the week not on game day. Defensive corners are the weak spot as far as I am concerned and Elijah Shumate needs to know when to tackle and when to strip the ball. Redfield looked good. Kei Russell is over rated and Luke is inconsistent. I like Schmidt and Nyles Morgan should get some quality minutes too.

we lost this game because Robinson dropped two balls for 9 pts
Brown fumbled on the goal line for 7 pts
Holmes fumbled giving Clemson a 25 yd field + 7 pts
Punter kicked a punt sideways giving Clemson a short filed and 7 pts

Too conservative - nonsense

if you have four turnovers vs a ranked team on the raod -- guess ****in what ??? you lose

that fact that we had a shot is kudos city to the staff for keeping game manageable till the end

KellyIrish, Well done, it's refreshing to see some here actually understand the game of football.

I think you are in fact the Brian Kelly.

Hey, I'm not a coach and have never coached but too many long runs went up the middle of this defense for me to side against you on Schmidt - one tackle for a MLB is unexplainable. Corey is a roller coaster - huge upside but no one ever knows when that will happen. BVG is a good D coordinator - he's not on the block. The O-line cannot get a push in short yardage - not sure why but the haven't yet.

By far the most ineffective player on the D is Romeo O. This guy just brings nothing to DE position . No physicality against the run and cannot get to the QB. Trumbetti has taken a step backwards this year. Seriously , why not play more of a 3 down lineman defense they implemented against GTECH . Rochelle is an absolute beast , Day is very good. Tillery is going to be a great player and Cage is solid. That is it ! They have nothing else up front. The rest are all BS recruits. BVG has to become more creative and find a way to get Coney/ Morgan on the field with Smith and Schmidt.
On another note , Why not make some position changes during the by week. I am not joking.
Latua should play some DE. ( Frank Stams 1988) . This team will have Smythe, Jones , Weisher and 2 incoming frosh in 2017. Latua is a blocking specialist. He can play DE. Justin Brent ( Pat Terrell) to safety. They have no safeties. He does nothing right now ! Next years ND will have 5 RB's CJ, TF, Williams, Adams, and Jones. The great coaches find a way to get their best players on the field.

That's interesting comment about CR.

He did drop the one pass in the first half that was indeed hit his hands as he was tightly covered, BUT the QB was focused souly on him not seeing an uncovered WR running down the side lines and another coming across the middle.

Now the two point conversation play you are speaking you know the QB through it too high.

How was CR going to adjust to catch that pass when it was in the back of the end zone in the pouring rain nursins bum leg?

The QB though playing with heart and little experience over threw several recievers throughout the game.

I know this might be hard for you to admit but it was a group effort by Clemson that won that game

The only reason we came back was because he abandoned the run. Hence my comment "too conservative." He should've went to the pass earlier did you see our receivers runing past players when we opened it up vs a stacked box. He waiting too long to throw the ball down field. No kudos for keeping it close a L is an L. I look forward to taking out on navy. Go Irish!

Against USC if we don't pressure Kessler via blitz or DL pressure he will cut our hearts out with a rusty spoon.
