That and defensive efficiency are probably the two best benchmarks of your defense. Considering four of the top seven team in these stat are ranked in the top four in the country, it tells you how important that stat is. I can't remember the last time Notre Dame ranked that high in defensive yards per play. The 2012 team keep pts off the board, but were not in the top ten in yards allowed.
