National Championships

Getting tired of Alabama folks going on and on about the number of national championships won over the years.
No big deal. But, I did pause to think how many ND would have if Rockne hadn't died in the prime of his career;
if Leahy hadn't been forced out; if Lou hadn't been forced out; if Ara hadn't been worn out.

Getting tired of Alabama folks going on and on about the number of national championships won over the years.
No big deal. But, I did pause to think how many ND would have if Rockne hadn't died in the prime of his career;
if Leahy hadn't been forced out; if Lou hadn't been forced out; if Ara hadn't been worn out.

It's my understanding that Alabama claims National Championships even in seasons when only one selector voted them National Champions. They even include 1973 despite losing to ND in the Sugar Bowl at the end of the season because the UPI chose their National Champ before the bowl games. If ND were to include every season when some selector (no matter how obscure) voted them National Champs, ND would have 19 or 20 National Championships. But ND only counts eleven consensus national titles.
