When interviewd at halftime of Stanford game she says Cardinal is making every shot that is why ND was behind.

This is true. Stanford made every shot and pulled some out of their butt

But ( no pun intended). We lost because no one played defense

We were horrendous.

No matter how hot shooters are they cant make shots when someone is in their face

We sucked on D

Very dissapointed in the coaching in fact there was little of it

Stanford had everyone open, got to every loose ball. Looked like it was 5 on 3.

Yeah, that's right lets blame the coach. What a useless post! We don't win so it must be the coaches fault. Stanford played a great game, give them the credit they deserve!!!

Stanford was focused, hungry and determined. They were not going to be denied. Congrats to them. Losing always sucks. But somehow I think it was sort of necessary. The lady Irish will be back next year and this loss will fuel them. They will be ready.

Tkirisk....completely agree. Stanford came out aggressive and seemed to play at a different speed the entire first half. The lady Irish looked like they expected the game to turn their way with time, and it almost did. Defense is equal parts effort and scheme, and our effort seemed lacking.

Who cares...... UConn is winning the national title by 20 points no matter who they played.

Well clearly you know zero about bball

Almost every media report on the game said ND was defenseless. Had no D

Yes that is the coaches fault

Now if you want to fire a good coach, you are a stupid and have no knowledge of the game

Stanford just had one of those nights where they just couldn't do much wrong on offense or defense. our irish still had a great season that saw them have only two losses while having to play without loyd and reimer. next years team should be better with two of the four POY award winners coming on board in Erin Boley and Jackie Young. if turner can develop a mid range jump shot this off season then another final four return may very well happen

Right about Turner , her only offense is close to the basket , about 3 feet. Watching some other post players , they extend their offense to the foul line.

With the many close games this season , many who have followed the Notre Dame women know this is not McGraw 's most talented team .True ,next year top 10 high school players 6'2" Erin Boley and 5'11 Jackie Young plus injured guard Ali Patberg will be a big help in getting back to the final 4 .

Still Notre Dame needs a few athletic 6'5 players to help in the paint .Maybe in 2017 .

So blame the coach because of media reports, yes that is a trustworthy approach. Silly.

Granite you are unable to read and comprehend

Media reports support my assessment. That is why I make that point

But anyone who knows basketball can see Muffet had a bad game. Ask yourself who is responsible for wide open Stzngord shots? Our 17 year old players? Or the coach who can see what is happening and tell them and make adjustments?

She flat out screwed up. Stanford played exceptionally well and we helped them with no D

Are you defending a hall of fame coach when she had. BAD game or are you just a moron who likes to call out op's even when the op is correct?

Next year we can be very good
As someone said Turner needs to develop and the new kids should be good

Jewel Lloyd did us no favors

You're the moron. The players play D, not the coach. With an ounce of basketball experience, you'd know that. You can't coach effort.

Your absolutely right.
If anyone thinks that Muffet didn't get on their case then you know nothing about coaching, there are games that no matter what you say, yell or challenge the players they just don't respond until it is too late. Believe me after 32 years coaching I still have trouble understanding it. I guess that just makes me a "Bad Coach" maybe they will fire me, but they haven't yet.

Unlike your comments here, I will try to avoid insulting you. I find it unacceptable to try to assess blame each and very time a team loses. Regardless of a coach or player "having a bad game" it is meaningless to point it out unless you have the silly expectation of perfection from coaches and players. Hence my reply to your post. My use of the word "silly" was a comment on your, not about you in contrast to your direct insults aimed at me. Rather unnecessary in a discussion.

Very good post. I did not think you had it in you. I thought you would be abusive like Diehard

In fact, I was insulting to you, so my apology

You make good points
Still, this is a forum and hopefully we get passionate about our team

No one will ever convince me that D is not the responsibility of a coach -- taught and furthermore is implemented and encouraged by coaches. This is not about perfection, but execution

I don't claim to be a coaching genius but I can tell you I have had conversations with some top coaches at the pro and college level and they all to a man say D is the coaches responsibility - as a game plan as a teaching tool and as a in game adjustment. Seems BVG has gotten his share of criticism lately too

It is not about the players. Some play better D than others do -- but anyone can pick up their D and my point is I am disappointed in Muffet. She is usually money. I was surprised and expressed my disappointment AND surprise. I never assigned blame. There is enough of that to go around and Stanford deserves credit for playing great too

People on this board seem to jump to conclusions and in this case concluding My post blames the coach is incorrect. It is a big contributing factor but my point is surprise because she usually has her team ready

I'm not blaming the loss on coaching but be assured you can coach effort.

Occasionally a player can have an off night on offense (usually affected by a defensive match up) but they should never have an off night on defense. That said, some nights the offense is just better than the defense they are playing against. Basketball is more about match ups than just effort.

ND would of been cannon fodder for UCONN this year any way. ND's chances of winning National Championships will coincide with Stewart, Jefferson and Tuck walking down the aisle and picking up their diplomas. Because ND had 0% chance of beating the Huskies in Stewies last Final Four. Zero

I have said this on other posts . Nobobody ,but nobody will beat UConn this year . But next season , Maryland , Ohio State , Baylor ,Louisville, South Carolina , Stanford , Texas A&M ,etc have a lot of their players coming back ,plus they are having great recruiting years. And UConn loses a lot with Jefferson ,Stewart ,Tuck.

UConn did sign the # 3 ranked high school player from Tennessee 5'6" point guard ,Crystal Dangerfield , but I went down the 2016 top 100 high school players and that seemed to be their only signee this season . Other schools had multiple top 100 players sign . Don't get me wrong ,UConn will still be a top 5 or top 10 program , but other schools will close the gap

Muffet is going to get help with 2016 recruits . In the McDonalds girls high school All American game in Chicago, Notre Dame committs # 11 ranked player 5'10" Jackie Young scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds for the West team and the #4 ranked player 6'2" Erin Boley scored 13 points and had 6 rebounds for the East. Should contribute immediately like this season's freshmen ,Marina Mabrey, and Arike Ogunbowale . Also freshman Ali Patberg ,a highly recruited top 13 was red- shirted because of injury

Along with Allen, Turner , Westbeld, Nelson , Thompson , Johnson ,ND should be very good . Most of the ND women on this team were nationally ranked top 20 high school players . Only wish the girls had more height , maybe in 2017 class .

Yeah I'm sure McGraw just twiddled her thumbs on the sidelines and in the locker room at halftime. Maybe it's just me - but if I'm a scholarship athlete at a Div.1 school and I'm on the floor playing defense, and there's a wide open shooter - I DON'T NEED THE COACH TO TELL ME TO GET IN THEIR FACE - I'll do it on my own!!

The Irish lost the game for a variety of reasons. McGraw wasn't one of them.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Totally agree

sometimes a coach can do nothing about how a team is playing. Just happens sometimes.

Next year will be very different in Women's college basketball . There are several teams capable of dethroning UConn .
