No. 2 Notre Dame men's lacrosse hosted a nationally ranked opponent, No. 18 Michigan, on Saturday at Arlotta Stadium, and the Irish offensive starters proved too much for the Wolverines to handle in a 19-9 victory.
The Wolverines (5-3) built an early 2-1 lead, but ND produced a scoring explosion in the second and third quarters — where the Irish had seven goals in each frame to distance themselves on the scoreboard.
The Irish (5-1) were led by graduate student Jake Taylor's seven goals. Taylor came one shy of tying a program record eight goals, which he scored in 2022. Freshman Jordan Faison scored three goals while grad students Pat Kavanaugh and Devon McLane scored two goals each. Faison, a former walk-on football player (since put on scholarship), enrolled at ND on scholarship for lacrosse and has scored in all six games during his first season under head coach Kevin Corrigan.
Pat's brother, Chris Kavanagh, had a team-high six assists. That performance marked a career-high for the junior who was an All-ACC Team selection in 2023. Pat finished with four assists, while grad student Fulton Bayman and senior Eric Dobson each had one assist.
Grad student goalie Liam Entenmann recorded 14 saves, which is tied for his season-high (had 14 at Maryland on March 3). Entenmann's performance helped him reach 608 saves in his career, making him the fourth player in program history to have 600 or more saves.
ND's victory marks the fourth consecutive win in the head-to-head series. The Irish haven't lost to Michigan since the 2017-18 season.
The Irish return to action on March 30 against No. 6 Syracuse at 2 p.m. EST in South Bend, Ind. It is ND's conference opener.
