Chris Kavanagh scored three goals, including the go-ahead score during a 9-0 Irish run, as No. 3 Notre Dame rallied past host Syracuse, 20-12, Saturday in men’s college lacrosse at the JMA Dome.
The teams were tied at 11-11 when Syracuse’s Cole Kirst gave the Orange (6-5, 0-3 ACC) their first lead of the game, at 12-11, with 13-09 left in the game. Nick Harris tied the game and started the fourth-period domination for the Irish (7-1, 1-1).
Notre Dame has now won six straight in the series.
Jake Taylor scored four goals for ND, with Eric Dobson and Reilly Grey each adding three. Pat Kavanaugh had two goals and three assists and is now the Irish career leader in assists with 112. Tom Ulrich (110) held the record previously.
Will Lynch won 23 of 33 faceoffs and Liam Entenmann recorded 10 saves.
The Irish return to Arlotta Stadium in South Bend next Saturday for a showdown with No. 4 Duke. The Blue Devils (10-1, 3-0) are coming off a 16-14 upset Friday of No. 1. Virginia. The game will air on ESPNU.
