Go Irish!
Thought for this day: by C W Spurgeon

There is a path which the eagle’s eye hath not seen, the penetration of intellect cannot discover it; the lion’s whelp has not trodden it — all the force of a man’s mind has not been able to lead him into it; but if we wait upon God, he will show us the way. I believe that a spiritual mind is an orthodox mind. There is not much fear of our embracing any serious errors in the head when the heart is not in error, for there it is that heresies are born and bred, in that witches’ caldron of our heart. Let the heart be constantly kept at the foot of the cross, and let the Holy Spirit bedew it with his sacred influence, and though we may for a little time, through our want of mental capacity, fail to understand the truth, it will not be for long. The Holy Ghost will lead us into all truth, and thus the text shall be fulfilled, “The Lord shall guide thee continually,” whether as relating to matters of providence or to matters of doctrinal instruction.

So shall it be likewise in matters of spiritual experience. Our experience often seems to be as though it had no rule. There is method in some men’s madness, but it does appear as if there were no method in our experience. To-day we are on the mountain, blessed of God with full assurance: to-morrow we are in the glens beneath the dark shadow, wondering why, and asking if God hath forgotten to be gracious. As when a child on a slate draws zigzag lines everywhere, but straight lines nowhere, so has it seemed with our life — as if we were farther back now than when we started. Our path has been like that of Israel in the wilderness, when the Lord led them about, but yet it is added that he guided them and instructed them. Brethren, if we are enabled by grace to seek close and vital union with Christ, and to live upon him daily and continually, we may rest assured that whether our experience be gloomy or delightful, and whether our inward conflicts or joys be paramount, he will still be at the helm, and will guide us continually.”

Well, all Went according To plan and we thoroughly enjoyed. Hope yours did as well. Left Calif as Our primary residence two plus years ago after 70 years, but we have a condo in Carlsbad that we use for three months during the summer. So much natural beauty and variety in the State; but we got sick and tired of the one party rule, the progressive politics/policys, lack of safety and rampant drugs and homelessness in the major cities, and the ever increasing tax burden. As you know, Calif still Has numerous places that are fantastic places to live, and it’s Hard to beat the coastal towns/cities from North County San Diego to Newport. We are enjoying life in Henderson, NV a ton, and fortunate to enjoy a slice of heaven in Cali for the summer. I believe you do as well, year round.

Went great! It was cold up here in the bay area, but had my glass of glenmorangie sherry Scotch to keep me warm. Filets came out excellent.

Carlsbad is a great city. I know it well.

I can't ever leave CA. Wife and I have our families here and we love the diversity of places to see and go.

Yeah, politics and cost of living are drag out here, but we make it work.

Sounds like you have a good arrangement with Henderson and Carlsbad. Happy for you.

Funny, and I had my 18 yr old Glengoyne that I break out for special occasions. Both are fantastic

Ha! I got a bottle of a 21 year old Glengoyne and I have a sample pack of Glengoyne 10 yr, 12 yr, and 18 yr. Someday I'll compare and contrast those. Glengoyne is a good one. If you haven't already, give Arran Malt a chance. Great Scotch.

The 18 yr Arran Malt was my special occasion scotch (birthdays, anniversary, Christmas, thanksgiving, Easter, July 4th, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, ND victory over Oklahoma and Clemson and Michigan, etc…) for years until our son gave me a bottle of 18 Glengoyne. Enjoy each. Heck, I’m a big fan of 18 MaCallan as well. But my tastes are changing. Spent a few weeks in Ireland several years ago and really liked their Jameson Black Barrel Irish whiskey, and this has become my daily dram; the least expensive drink I’ve enjoyed in many decades!
