lots of hate for him here over the years but there was also a lot of people who claimed his anti-ND position was just part of an act due to his scripted opposition to Lou. Now that Lou isn't on ESPN...May has been quite complimentary of ND. I believe he even has ND as his #3 right now and his comments this week had quite a different tone than recent years.

Personally I think this backs up the argument that he was playing a scripted schtick all along. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I agree. I've never met May personally, but secondhand reports have always confirmed the fact that he's generally a good guy and complimentary of Notre Dame. Unfortunately, I think he was pushed to be more of an entertainer than an analyst.

I think at times he was being honest and then it grew into a schtick thing between he and Lou. He was very complimentary of ND this week, but this is the most complete team we've had in a while.

I think he was forced to play the bad guy for a lot of teams .... I know I used to get in debates with Nebraska fans about who MM hated more.

I agree with you and Lou and Mark being an "act". But how can you take anything they say serious? I an disappointed with Coach Holtz playing this game of cat and mouse. ESPN should be better then that. Guess not.

Did anyone watch PTI today? I could have sworn I heard Wilbon mention DK as one of his Heisman candidates. I thought I was hearing things and then I played it back. He also has the Irish up there in his Final Four I think. He was babbling so who the heck knows. Anyone think he got Kizer and Watson confused?

I believe the E in ESPN stands for "Entertainment". We are the fools that fall for their marketing scheme every time. ESPN 10 million (viewers) sheep (us) 0!

I have noticed the samething

The truth is and has always been that Mark May is a benevolent gentlemen deserving of the highest respect. the kind of guy we'd be proud of if he attended Notre Dame.

ESPN on the other hand....there is a reason the E (entertainment) is before the S. Sport is now and has always been secondary to the networks business model. Its just taken awhile for many of us recognized it. Mark and Lou were both playing roles every bit as much as the other roles portrayed on the network do every day. The actors just use their real names (in most cases) Heck, Stephen A Smith is a great guy off air too. Guys like Olbermann on the other hand...were likeable in their ESPN days and completely the opposite off air.

I noticed the same thing this past weekend. I heard him speaking well of ND, and couldn't believe my ears. Then I realized that Lou wasn't sitting next to him anymore.

Say what you want about Mark May but the cat has a high football IQ and is usually right in his analysis and projections. If you play a college card listen to him before you fill it out.
