If we lost to Alabama or even LSU 20 to 19 at home I could accept that. They are super talented teams from the SEC West. Georgia is an average team from the weak sister SEC east ! Hell freekin Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech beat them ! Notre Dame has more talent then Georgia this year especially on offense !! And our supposed super offense did not show up !! Brian Kelly is a good man but he is also a Whimpy man !! He gets scared when we play teams with a pulse !! Have you not seen enough of these losses in important games ??! Are you not entertained by Great victories ?? !!
There was no excuse for losing to Georgia. None !!

Of course ND needs to go and beat BC and play one game at a time ! But please accept only Greatness !! And hate mediocraty !!
Go Irish !! Beat BC !!

Bodi, none of us has a clue how Georgia stacks up against Alabama, or LSU, etc... Hell, they could run the table and be this year's surprise playoff team. We simply don't know whether we lost to a perennial 8-5 team, or one that wins the SEC this year. Just as you thought Stanford looked great and USC not so great after week one, the sample size is simply too small at this point. Absent more games to go on, I choose to think we lost to a team that was better than us at this stage of the season, and one that dominated on the defensive side of the ball, and yet we lost by one point and had opportunities to win.

I respect your opinion. But when was Georgia in the discussion as an elite team? Why did Vegas share my opinion that Notre Dame was 6.5 points better than Georgia at home? And my opinion was that the Irish offense for some reason completely choked. And they were lucky to have 19 points as a couple of drives were extended by Georgia penaltys .And I put most of the blame on Kelly.
So you accept Notre Dame losing at home as a six point favorite?

I think the Vegas spreads the first few weeks of the season are terribly inaccurate compared to later in the season for the same reasons, just as early season rankings prove to be. So, for me, being favored by six over a team ranked nine or ten slots better made little difference. Frankly, It's largely conjecture at this point as to whether the ND offense choked, whether the coaches were out coached, or whether the players got beat by a better team. To my eye, we got beat by a better team, whose skill set on defense was a poor match up for us. After each team's first possession I told my son I thought Georgia looked to be the better team on talent and speed and athleticism. That said, I also think we played below our ability and I agree with you that Georgia miscues kept the score closer than it might have been. The only player on offense that played to their ability in my opinion was Finke. We all thought Wimbush just needed to play within himself and not make mistakes as we had so many other weapons, and yet the game was on his shoulders all night. I hated to lose just as badly as you, but my sense is we lost to a better team. Not saying they will be a better team by season's end, just better in week two.

You know it has been since 2013 since we beat anyone that was a very good team. Michigan State which finished 13 and 1. 4 years of no significant wins over ranked teams. In 2015 we lost all three games against the top teams. But at least none of them were at home. What about those heartbreaking losses to Michigan in his first two years. ? That loss to Florida State in 2011 when our defense was kicking their asses in in the firsts half? Every important game he has lost except for Stanford in 2012 and Oklahoma in 2012. He is what he is. Our players deserve better. I think this team could do so much better with a better coach. I made a ton of excuses the last 8 years for Kelly but I have WOKE UP. You will one day too. Michigan was supposed to be rebuilding this year but they are winning and they easily beat Florida (same as Georgia). They have a good head coach (Harbaugh and we don/t.

Since you're leveraging everything on last year's records, I'd say a 4-8 team losing by 1 point to an 8-5 team is pretty damn impressive. Georgia has what is widely regarded as the best running tandem in college football and returned 10 of 11 players from last year's formidable defensive unit. Overall, ND gave a solid account of themselves. But as you say, let's now beat BC!

If Notre Dame had won the game, a few years from now no one would remember or care that the Georgia
starting QB did not play. No one would recall that Georgia started a true Fr. QB.
And no one will care that it was in fact a 1 point loss. It will be marked as a loss.

Yes UGA lost to Vandy and GT last year, but guess what, ND would have lost to both last year too. Game ended up being a 1 point game, but without some penalties to keep drives going and a dropped TD the game was a 20+ point game. UGA's offense isn't all that good, our OL is a work in progress, but the better team won the game inspite of committing numerous mistakes that led to points. The game ended with the AA OT getting blown up leading to a sack and game ending fumble The defense all but shut down an offense that rushed for 400+ yards in the opener and kept ND in 3rd and 6+ all game long, going 3-17 on third down. It was a whipping that the scoreboard didn't show, but a win on the road in a night game on national TV.

Bodi, as I replied in another thread, I recognize and accept that Kelly has shown the inability to win big games. I thought we lost to a better team with Georgia, but I also think that was the kind of game that Holtz used to find a way to win. I wanted Kelly fired before and after last season, but accept he wasn't and I really liked all the changes, and I am hopeful we'll see different results. I don't think anyone can argue that our defense is vastly improved, as is the attitude and commitment of players. We lost the game because the offense played extremely poorly across the board against a very good defense, and no one stood up and played an outstanding game. And yes, I have questions about our game plan and adjustments and poor execution. My point continues to be that I want to see the season play out with all these changes before discussing whether Kelly should be fired, not after a one point loss in the second game. I fully agree that ND deserves a head coach who finds ways to win big games and has us in the playoffs on a regular basis with success. Hope Kelly rises to this level this season with all the changes, and will be anxious to discuss when the sample size is larger than two games.

I would say it is not a whipping. The Dawg D is terrific especially the front 4. However, if you watch the tape Wimbush who is inexperienced and shown to be inaccurate made poor decisions and missed some wide open players and not to blame him completely none of the WR stepped up to make easy catches. they whiffed. One was painfully bad to watch was the TE blocking. note the opening Irish drive the WR should catch the ball and would have been a TD. so blow out of 20-19 is what was deserved. Your D ruled the day and deserved that blowout win,

Bodi, up to now your posts have been entertaining at times and worthy of head shaking bafflement most others. Now you're just being a pain in the ass nut job. Yet another Ignore addition.

If uga lost to a 4 8 Irish team that would be totally unacceptable. Works both ways. And you might want to recheck the recruiting rankings, uga is the more talented team

Georgia has a very talented team. They have perennial top 10 recruiting classes. Smart was a longtime DC under Saban, and must've learned some things about putting together a defense. So I'm disappointed we lost, but we probably won't face a better defense the rest of the season.

You are a loser. You can not change your mind because you are too stupid.
Me ? One week you proclaim the best and the next week they re the worst. Change what mind ? Kelly is the coach going forward and neither you or I can change that. Change your name to the "Waffler ".

This is a great example of making excuses for the football program's average at best showing under BK.

If this was a first year head coach there could be reason for optimism after Saturday night.

BK is way beyond the trying hard club, or getting his own guys, etc etc.

BK always does just enough to get close in the big games but it's also always just shy of what's needed to actually win these types of games.
