Looks like D. Butler will dismissed...

side note on this case:
anyone read the track record of the two arresting officers?
bizarre!
be a good idea to plead this one oyt to misdemeanor; for everyones sake.

2nd paragraph: I guess we can agree to disagree. When I see consistant behavior or result, I generally figure there is some driver at work. I think that a lesser stringent enforcement attitude is a factor.
Look where the elite recruits are heading? Meyer, Saban, Jimbo, Miles, Harbaugh... Of course one might say that is recruits go where there is a winner; but winners get there with elite recruits: chicken/egg thing.
Honestly, of the six kids suspended over the weekend, there is a good likelyhood that they would avoid legal charges and or felony charges in other locations.
True that if you have confidence in your 'parenting', you don't feel (strict administrative discipline involvement) it is a threat, but then again, you don't spit into the wind either.

I'm familiar with the history, but even the guy Kneppler hospitalized for three days with internal bleeding of the brain ended up pleading guilty to the felony resisting charges and was sentenced to two years home detention.

hopefully the case drops to misdemeanor and while the football career at ND is over, the kid could have a shot a staying in school; a long shot but a shot nevertheless.

I feel like I am arguing against my self, since I usually take the more no nonsense approach to these matters.
But we read that, 'heck everyone does it in college, or drinks in college...or...." So where are these kids getting this stuff?
Well these 5 got snagged; that is part of what sets them apart; that and the gun! How to explain the gun?
well they might have had the Greg Bryant thing on their minds.
I don't know all the facts, and I know nothing of these kids.

Coming from Haugh, even the backhanded stuff, that was pretty high praise. He hates Kelly more than cgvr.

I did not [like] this passage, though:

According to a probable cause affidavit, South Bend police Lt. Joseph Galea said Butler walked toward a woman and shoved her. After police instructed Butler to step away from the woman, he allegedly attacked an officer and began throwing punches.

That makes it sound like he just walked up and shoved her when he actually shoved her after she kicked another woman in the head. I think that is an intentional oversight.

Absolutely an intentional move on the writer's part. I'm not a fan of the guy at all. He's usually much worse.

I think some here are confusing the terms "dismissal" and "his career is over".

Right or wrong, he may get dismissed from Notre Dame. Some are suggested that this would be Notre Dame turning its back on the kid. Saying his career would be over at 19 etc etc.

To be clear he could transfer or enroll somewhere else (SEC) and continue his football career. Clearly, his life and career would not be over should he be expelled from UND.

To me though, football is the least of his worries. Felony charges are serious. He needs to hope he serves no time in prison. Football is secondary at this point.
