Thanks Ara, very interesting press conference. Kelly expressed that he failed to be involved in all facets of the team at the right level because of fund raising for the facilities and because of his intimate involvement in the offense. Players expressed frustration with lack of access to Kelly, and apparently lack of any real relationship with their HC. Appears Kelly has listened, and making a concerted effort to be accessible and to be involved in the daily routines of all facets of the team, and the best part of this is his handing the offense over to Chip Long.
On the injury front, great to hear him say Crawford is doing everything short of contact this Spring, that Watkins is full speed ahead, and that Cage has no medical restrictions. All very positive.

My question(s) is this. With all the years of head coaching experience, didn't BK ever imagine that these distractions would be problematic? Why did he put himself in a situation that fundraising was more important than the football season? Why did Jack even allow this? BK has to make an effort to be more involved with the team and to be accessible to his players? I figured this would come naturally.

Coverage starts today at 12:00 ET & 11:00 CST on UND.com.

Sorry Bodi, but questioning BK is not the same as complaining. As a fan, my faith in BK has been shaken what seems like every single year by his boo boos. My support for BK is not unwavering. I'm just wondering why he didn't know the possible ramifications of putting outside responsibilities ahead of his Head Coaching duties. He should have known the answer to that with all his million years of coaching experience and all. Same goes for Jack who most likely sent him out on these road trips. I support the players from here to eternity. BK and staff......not so much. I'm not kidding. IMHO, BK and staff need to pitch a perfect game this season. No blunders, no mistakes, no questionable play calling, no throwing into gale force winds, no going for two when a FG will win it. BK has had his achieving moments over the years. He just needs to be consistent.

Toby, we really don't know the full extent of his fund raising activities, but I think the real crux of this matter was the time spent with the offense. This is a control and trust issue, and the belief that no one was better equipped than himself to develop and manage the offense. It worked in the past, and in recent years, he could point to good offensive production and poor defensive play, with all the excuses for BVG. Last year he was embarrassed and humbled and apparently did a great job assessing every facet of the program, including his own role, and major changes were made. Things look positive and encouraging going forward, but the real test will be if or when the offense sputters, and whether he is able to keep his hands off of Chips offense.

Coaches are hired and fired by past performance. Not one AD or General Manager in the history of mankind has ever hired a Head Coach without looking at his resume. You have to look at a body of work to have any idea what the future may hold. Irish fans remember. Irish fans are gun shy. Irish fans are ready to celebrate a successful 2017 and embrace BK once again.

What is Yoon's weight gain? He has been doing extra "curls for the girls".

Is the gains/losses I was most impressed with, assuming they're "quality":

Banks 310 -10 ( good start reshaping his body)

Bivin 318 +10 (Need to add Strank's, hopefully this is a step there)

Cage 329 +14 (Run stopper adding strength and anchor always good)

Eichenberg 294 +14 (Elite talent, needed more strength, good to see)

Elliott 208 +13 (With added strength could be a quality, all-around safety)

Hainsey 292 +17 (Impressive game for a freshman OL)

D. Hayes 255 +5 (Adding the strength can make him an elite all around DE)

J. Hayes 281 -4 (Hopefully he'll have better athleticism/flexibility, making him a better all-around SDE)

Alize 245 +5 (Elite athlete, w/ added strength, could be an elite all around TE)

Jam. Jones 243 +18 (Big gain for a player growing into a hybrid, with enough strength)

Jon Jones 227 +7 (Growing into a for fledged linebacker)

T. Jones 224 +9 (Growing into a solid power RB)

McIntosh 190 +10 (Getting closer to necessary strength for RB/Slot)

Mokwuah 326 +9 (Hopefully continuing to reshape body into a quality run stopper)

D.J. Morgan 208 +8 (On track to be an option a Team Rover in the future)

N. Morgan 238 -7 (IMO he needed to add speed & athleticism by losing weight)

Ogundeji 251 +11 (Adding needed functional strength. Should ultimately be 270lbs, imo)

Okwara 235 +7 (Adding needed strength to otherwise great skill set)

Perry 209 +5 (On track to be an option a Team Rover in the future)

Robertson 208 +13 (May be able to contribute as a Frosh)

Smythe 256 +11 (Adding size & strength needed to be inline TE)

Taylor 280 -5 (Hopefully reshaping body to be more athletic/disruptive)

Tranquill 230 +5 (Becoming ideal Rover, could be a real force)

Vaughn 209 +9 (Could be a truly elite Press-Man CB, with elite size and strength)

Wright 252 +7. (Strong enough to be a versatile TE as a Frosh, could contribute immediately)

Jamir gaining 18lbs is a pretty big deal. He also grew slightly over an inch taller (now 6'3 1/8", was 6'2"). I think his days at linebacker are over and he's likely a WDE from here on. Okwara also gained an inch along with is +7lbs so D. Hayes is going to have some depth behind him.

Besides the height and weight changes, BK revealed that D. McIntosh is the fastest player on offense (T. Pride is fastest on defense). He may be more involved on the offense than we thought. Let's hope he has great hands.

But what is he going to be doing on a day-to day basis? I know he said he will be working on "grit" on a day-to day basis, but how much work can be done on a day-to day basis to improve one's grit on a day-to day basis? I am really looking forward on a day-to day basis, to the team achieving greater grit on a day-to day basis, and also hearing coach Kelly talk on a day-to day basis, about day-to day basis stuff, and grit, can't forget the grit, especially on a day-to day basis. So my take from the press conference was; first of all, grit, and secondly, though perhaps more importantly, "day-to-day basis". I believe we will have the grittiest, and most day-to day basisty team in the country, not only during the season, but more importantly on a day-to day basis. I just hope they don't have too much grit on a day-to day basis, and not enough day-to day basis grit.

Hopefully you won't post on a day to day basis.

Look at his past stops -- ND is a different animal than all the others. The high rollers want access to the HC, they want him at their functions -- otherwise, they may not contribute... it is a dicey sword --

I am glad Kelly took the initiative to listen to his players, look at himself and make changes -- and also, make the appropriate changes on his staff as well.

The fundraising was also for the single largest project ever undertaken by the University.
Not something that happens every year. Once in a lifetime stuff.

So we don't have to worry about Kelly doing extensive fundraising anymore.
