Lincoln Riley

I sure hope competitive advantage isn’t a factor for them. They can schedule ND and LSU when attempting to get into the four team playoff, but now it would be a problem to keep ND when attempting to make a 12 or 14 team playoff?

They could play ND every year during the BCS era, but now the competition is a problem?

I don’t care if it has to be week 1, ND and USC should play each other every year.

Lincoln Riley is about himself. To end ND/SC is like saying let’s end Army/Navy. There are rivalries and then there are rivalries. ND/ SC is the greatest intersectional rivalry in all of college football. The history of these two schools is unmatched. From National Championships to Heisman trophy winners to all Americans and NFL draft picks, these two unversities are the embodiment of colle football. It would be a horrible decision to end this rivalry.
Coaches will come and go , but the universities will endure . College football is being decimated by many changes. I only hope those that make decisions, keep this game and all the big important rival games . It is part of what makes college football the greatest sport ever.

Since when does Lincoln Riley make scheduling decisions and whether or not to continue a long standing rivalry? I'm sure the AD and the powers that be will have a say.

With all the major changes happening in college athletics, it’s only a matter of time before traditional rival games fade away.

Like I said months ago.The game is not on the schedule after 2026. Douche Canoe had a snarky response then too.

Then they will be restored in an attempt to get the public interested in the college version of the NFL.

Their goal is to win a national championship, and if scheduling out of conference games with Notre Dame is an obstacle to this, then Riley prefers to cancel a 100 yr old series. Expected some scheduling challenges from the Big on continuing this series, but never expected the USC head coach to openly express fear of losing to ND as a reason to consider cancelling this series.

If they cancel, schedule a series with UCLA

College football doesn't really exist anymore, with all the existing changes, and those to come, it's really the NFL minor league, so don't get to twisted with the lose of rivalry games

I just remember addressing this very premise when USC announced the move to the B1G And a certain “poster” had their usual glib response. Don’t want it to happen but “even Anne Frank could see this coming” 😂(name that movie)

Sad, but true, But that doesn’t mean that you can’t lament the loss of great rivalries

I’m ready for ND to rejoin the Big East and go back to a traditional independence schedule. And back to some rivalries.

The reason that neither ND nor USC have their annual game scheduled beyond the 2026 season is that the Big Ten is not going to disrupt conference scheduling for USC to play an OOC game. The way it has been done for decades, the Big Ten will make the complete conference schedule and then each school fills open dates with OOC opponents.

USC had a formal, written agreement with the Pac-12 to schedule the ND-USC game in the manner that it has been played since Knute Rockne set up the rivalry in 1926. That game was an ongoing rivalry for 40 years when the Pac-8 conference was formed in 1968 and was written into the Pac-8 bylaws as part of the conference scheduling. The Big Ten has no such agreement with USC and almost certainly won’t agree with it, thus Lincoln Riley can use that as an excuse to soften USC’s schedule.

Is this really such a bad thing? Does USC really need to be on the schedule to make the playoffs? That’s all that really matters

If you ask the Notre Dame Athletic Director, he Is on record saying Notre Dame is committed to playing USC now, and in future years.

Of course the ND AD wants to continue the rivalry. The problem is that USC may want to soften its OOC schedule and drop ND.

Not Navy. Stanford maybe, as long as they can schedule other west coast schools on the road in the years ND hosts SC.
Now that Stanford, Cal and SMU are all in the ACC, perhaps either Cal or SMU will replace them some years on Thanksgiving weekend. We could play SMU at Jerry World.

How about drop Stanford and pick up an SEC team. Vandy might be a good replacement. Good academic school. Decent middle of the road team. ND needs talent from the south. Go there every other year. Rice in Texas is another. Just a thought. Both similar to Stanford.

Won't happen, if you believe Pete Bevacqua, the Notre Dame AD.

The Notre Dame admin places a priority on the Stanford annual game.

Same with Navy and USC.

Currently we have 11 opponents scheduled for 2025. Stanford isn't one of them. Only 6 of the games have dates set yet.

ND & USC could agree to open the season against one another every year. Problem solved.

If both schools want the series to continue, then it will continue. If not, it won't.

And so it goes...

Stanford will now be part of the ACC rotation.

The ACC has not set the dates for those games yet, thus, you won't see them until later.
