I like using merit to pick numbers, but I'm not sure about the week to week #1 idea.

The Univ. of MT defense always gives their treasured number (37) to the most inspirational player who was recruited from the state of MT and it passed down by the people who wore it previously. That's a great tradition in my book.

Having several people wear #1 over the course of the year might get confusing -- especially in 20 years when we are trying to figure out who was wearing it way back when.

I too question the 'week to week' model. I think it would fit much better as a year to year deal (e.g. player has a great season/camp/semester he gets awarded the number the following season).

5. In a scrimmage kick formation at the snap (Rule 2-16-10) Team A may have fewer than five linemen numbered 50-79, subject to the following conditions:

The #1 seems to be a prize number on college teams right now so why not use it as an incentive from week to week. Whoever thought you'd see a 342 lb NT wearing #1? Big Lou wanted that number real bad back in 2013. Numbers no longer define positions on the football field like when we played.

Good post Ara. Coach Kelly knows how to motivate his young players. Most of the posters here are well over the age of 18 to 21 and might not understand what motivates these youngsters IMHO.

How much time will be spent week to week on this "project"? I don't like the loss in continuity. I don't like that a position group is excluded. I don't like that the staff/kelly will be spending extra time on it. I don't like the potential for "disorganization", ongoing disruption....among other things...... PS kelly owns the music city bowl as his biggest post season bowl win. He stinks.

"I can verify, CVGR is an alum from the late 70s. And there are lots of alums that don't like Kelly, but certainly not a majority. And that doesn't exactly make Kelly unique. not to fret. kelly is clearly smarter than you when it comes to football and running his program. the players themselves understand what he is doing. nothing idiotic about it. let kelly do what he does best. coaching and administrating his program. you should stick to what you do best, hating and being uneducated about the game of football.
