What you guys think, Kelly coming back?
i'm thinking he will leave if Eagle's job is available...

What would make you think we would go to a job he got passed up for or has already passed on depending on the story you believe? Also why would the Eagles go with another college coach making the jump?

Dear Lord,

Please give coach Coughlin the power to understand it's time to step away. Also, please let the NY Giants take the purple faced idiot ND coach off of our hands!

Thanks.

didn't anybody watch the pregame on fox last night. they showed an interview that they did with him a few days earlier and with asked about the nfl he basically said he wasn't interested because he wouldn't be able to recruit his own guys and manage his own roster

We better hope Kelly stays. He will have us in the hunt every year. The guy is a great great college football coach.

Davie, Ty, Charlie, O'Leary---I don't want to re-live those days.

Vince McMahon is going to sign him for the WWE. The "Purple Reign of Terror".
I'd love to see him jump off a turn buckle. I picture him as similar to George the Animal Steele....

Don't want to replace Kelly YET. If he can't develop an effective power package for short yardage situations he will never be great. So far he is on track to be a Mark Richt. A good man who does well enough without taking his team to the top consistently.

Kelly is a good. Maybe even very good head coach. However you are not a great college football coach until you win a national championship. Also can not be a great coach with miserable near the bottom of the barrel red zone and third down performance on both offense and defense. Great coaches dominate good opponents and humiliate weak ones. They don't win close against any but the best. The almost pulled it out mentality will preserve the risk of coming up short against good opponents. The play's post game " should have " conversation should center on are the 5 or 6 plays that led to FGs rather than TDs in 3 red zone opportunities.

I also believe pre-Alabama 2012, he said he had no interest, or denied reports that he was going to interview. Kelly is going to be looking out for #1, so if something good is offered, why not take it? If he crashes and burns, he retires in a couple of years and lives off his millions.

I have a different view of Kelly than most. People seem to love him or hate him and I'm somewhere in-between.

I think Kelly has done an excellent job of getting us to the next level and I think the program is much more solid than it was. On the flip side I think Kelly has been wildly inconsistent and terrible mistakes have cost us a few games in 2011, 2013 & 2014. As successful as this season was terrible mistakes by the staff cost us possible wins against Clemson and Stanford.

If Kelly wants to stay I think he has earned another year. The reality is that next year will be Kelly's 7th and he will be the longest tenured ND coach to not have won a NC. Even Lou and Ara only lasted 11 years so realistically I'm not sure how many more years Kelly really has. Like any top program ND is a tough place to coach and I think it wears coaches down. When all is said and done I would be shocked if Kelly is here after 8 years regardless of his record the next 2 years.

no way the Eagles go 'college'
the only job that looks like it has opportunity for Kelly is NYG
Chip Kelly may have tainted the college spread HC resumes.

I've said before I hope Kelly stays beyond ten years and retires from ND. That said, his denial of interest in the NFL for the reasons stated suggests to me that he might be interested if given the kind of control that PC has in Seattle. I think it's a moot point as I can't see any owner offering this to Kelly, and I also think Kelly is a teacher at heart and meant for the college game. Hope he retires from ND with six or more consecutive years of ten plus wins and a NC.

Strong post is strong. I tend to agree. Very good coach. Not great but definitely not as bad as many feel he is. Great post.

Thanks. I really don't agree with absolutes. Even Weis did a lot of things for the program that made it possible for Kelly to succeed. Weis created the blueprint with admissions to get kids approved faster. He pushed the training table for athletes. He proved that you could recruit elite players to ND. He was a bad coach that needed to go but, IMO, he did some good things also.

Kelly once made a statement about being a ND football coach for the long term . I don't remember exactly what he said. But it something in the order that he didn't see ND as a long term coaching job . Don't know if he meant a 10-12 or more years' commitment ? Definitely not here for any duration. He would probably go to the pros if the right situation came his way, let's say in 3-4 years .

Another point .Wondering if an opportunity came along to coach at a big time program where entrance requirements are less than at ND . Could you see Kelly at Georgia ,LSU ,Texas for real big bucks ? Don't see him in the ACC ,PAC 12, Big 10 .

the thing is that he doesnt really violate board rules - just good taste rules.
and just being contrary is not a basis for a banning.
he is at one end and sunshine pumpers the other! do they get banned?

wait...I the can't use derogatory description re staff; comment is limited to performance issues!

yup, he should go!

Pretty much sums up my feelings, although I think he might try to stick it out 10 years.
