Read tonight that Jordan Botelho is coming back for 25.

I'd love to see that guy have a great season. What a start to 24 he had.

The DL will be without Cross and Mills....but there's still a ton of talent in that unit.

Young
Burnham
Botelho
Thomas
Traore
Junior

If we can get the inside figured out, then our front 7 should be incredible.

I am happy Botelho has decided to return but as we have seen with Mitchell Evans, players with serious knee injuries can sometimes take some time to round back into form, so we shouldn't expect either Botelho or Traore will necessarily be their old selves right away. Hope they are, but don't be surprised if they are not. But you are right, if we can figure out the DT positions, our DL should be very good. I am really eager to see the improvement from Bryce Young from season 1 to 2. He could be a monster in the making.

Having an experienced and reliable 24-year-old front 7 guy, like Jack Kiser is this season, helps.

He will be 1.5 months ahead of Evans in terms of when the injury happened I believe. Traore about a month

Evans is 2.5 months from getting full go clearance and doesn't seem remotely like himself (understandable).

I have a hard time seeing botelho or Traore being an explosive DE in 25, especially early 25.

Yeah he's been much better the last 2 games. Getting close

I would be very surprised if 1 wasn't ready first game and the other wasn't ready to go soon after

12 months post surgery is a long time. Thats where Evans is now

Yep, i would just expect the staff to play it slow like normal and ease them into field/game action. It's not only being 100% cleared but then you have to play on it. Very few hit the ground running at 100%. Some faster than others, but it's hard to rely on 2 edge rushers that probably are getting cleared at or around fall camp to just start going 100% with some contact.

Does anyone know what the actual injury is that he had?
The first reports were that Botelho suffered a patella tendon tear, but later reports were not so definitive, so who knows.

If in fact Jordan suffered a patella tendon tear, that could be worse than an ACL tear. The patella tendon is wider and stronger than the ACL, so surgeries are often more complicated (open surgery for a patella tendon tear vs. arthroscopic surgery for ACL tears) and the recovery can be longer. I had a good friend who ruptured his patella tendon. He was a very fit athlete and it took him almost 2 years to make a full recovery. But that was about a decade ago, and techniques have improved since then.

Thanks for that. I don’t know anatomy, but I thought I saw Botelho’s kneecap out of place after the Purdue injury. I’m not sure if the patella tendon is involved with that so I was curious because I hadn’t seen anything definitive.

Hopefully he can contribute to the team next year and he gets a Masters Degree.

I think I still have the Purdue game on DVR, so I will have to go back and watch. I am not in the medical field but have acquired some basic knowledge of anatomy and sports injuries. Some of that knowledge, unfortunately, is by way of self experience. I believe the patellar tendon connects the bottom of the kneecap to the tibia (shinbone), so if Botelho in fact suffered a complete rupture of the patellar tendon it would be logical to see the kneecap loosened up and moving around, because the tendon is no longer holding it in place.

One of my buddies once suffered a complete rupture of his biceps tendon while we were playing basketball. His biceps muscle rolled up into a ball inside his arm. He looked sort of like Popeye, though I am pretty sure he didn't feel like Popeye.

After 4.5 school years at Notre Dame, he may already have a Masters before he starts year 6 next August as fast as these kids seem to barrel through school.

God damn that sucks about JB. Football, man, very violent sport. Glad he's coming back. Probably going to lose his starting spot and his shot at the NFL. Anyway, godspeed to him.

I remember seeing that too. It looked like his kneecap had popped out position. I have a hard time believing he will be ready to go early next season.

it was not that long ago that injuries like that were career ending or left you a shell of what you were
