Chargers have cut / released Jerry Tillery. While I assume a team will pick him up on Monday and he will likely be playing somewhere next year I do wonder if he should have been an offensive lineman. When he arrived at ND that was the expected position but the need was on Defense and that is where he played and ended up being a 1st round draft pick at the position.

As I recall it the DL position choice was his and not out of team need. He didn't want to be on the OL so the discussion is moot really.

I have long thought OT was his best position. He was a cerebal thoughtful guy when he was here. That just strikes me as possessing an OL mentality. We were just really weak at DL and he wanted to play there.

Tillery will be picked up today the first day he is eligible. Yes he has been successful but I think his frame would have been better suited to offensive tackle. A little too skinny to be an interior d lineman.
