So Hayes and Blankenship play as freshman but not sophomores. Makes no sense. What if there are more injuries? I would think the UMASS game would be the perfect game to rest some starters and let young guys gain experience. Our schedule is rough with no breaks. When is the last time Sheldon Day has completed a full season?

I believe they aren't going to be redshirted at all costs. The point is last year they wouldn't have played if it had been possible to keep them off the field, hence if they can preserve the possibility of the 5th year while letting them continue to grow they will.

not sure how far we can go to interpret 2 tweets; my initial idea on reading them, was that, while Jay is being possibly RS, Jay might feel he is not getting the attention/teachingfrom his position coach.
The thing is, that true or not, if Hayes felt or thought that, it was his reality; and it needed to be addressed (it has been).

If the staff is planning on shirting the kid, he wouldn't get as much intense game ready coaching as others. That's just the way it is. That would be like a 3rd string QB bitching about not getting enough reps. Coaches need to get the guys who are going to play ready, thus they get more attention.

This generation of kid really struggles with the "personal responsibility" aspect of being a football player. It is the players responsibility to earn the coaches trust and garner his attention, Not the other way around. It is easier for one player to adjust to one coach, than a coach to try and have to adjust to 12 different personalities. Hayes is the one who'll have to figure out a way to get out of Keith Gilmore's dog house, It's not Keith Gilmore's job to manage the moods of Jay Hayes. Step up or step out.

A good problem to have from the team perspective, as it just illustrates the depth we've developed. From the kid's perspective, can't begin to imagine the frustration of going from a heady suit up and play situation as a true freshman to red shirting as a sophomore. Imagine the amount of attention he received towards the end of last year when they needed him to be game ready, to what he is receiving this year as a potential red shirt. Hope he stays the course as he will be a solid contributor down the road.

You know what makes teams great and being able to win a lot of games is competition. The more quality football players you bring in year after year the tougher the competition.,as a coach its your job to put the team in the best position to win. That's it. You get paid to win. Maybe Hayes feels he should be playing more. I don't know. Maybe he's frustrated. Whatever the case, he should be working as hard as he can to get in the lineup. Evidently the coaches feel other players give them a better chance to win. College football is full of All- Americans who never see the field. As a fan I want the best players out there. If Hayes is unhappy about playing time, then he should work hard to change that.

Practice every day like you DESERVE to be a starter.....and the Coaches will notice. Enough with tweeting....JUST DO IT!!!

Everyone is just one play away from getting on the field. Look at Kizer.
He went from third string to being THE man.

STFU, practice hard, prepare - and your time will come.

If not, or if you think you're being treated unfairly, then look to go elsewhere.
All this airing your hurt feelings on twitter is just so.......girly. Grow a sack!!

It seems like the more drama in a kid's recruiting or early career, the less productivity there is on the field for ND.
