6'2" 225, Georgia fans say he is confident and he will be ready.

If you were Mike Elko what plans and/or surprises would you have for the true freshman? Thoughts, ideas, anything special?

And from a fan's perspective your thoughts on going against the true freshman?

I don't know anything about the kid or many details about UGA's skill positions outside of the sunshine everyone blows up their 2 RB's derrieres.

I would imagine though that the play-action passes would constitute a pretty high percentage of his attempts, followed by screens and shorter underneath combo patterns. If he's an athletic kid then roll him out and give him 1 to 2 reads on half to a quarter of the field.

How the defense reacts to the play-action in the first quarter will tell us a lot.

Five start recruit who looked pretty comfortable Saturday night. UGA will want to establish the run so Fromm can manage the game instead of having to win the game. Slow down the run, make him have to make plays, then pressure him. Easier said than done.

Very true. Although I'm oddly more confident about ND's ability to pressure than I have been in the last couple of years. Granted, that was just one game. Encouraging though.

And we are playing against a very pedestrian Oline.

I think you do the opposite. Play zone rush four. If Georgia's line is suspect you should be able to beat them with four.

I think Elko needs to be ready for the quick passing game. Hayes did a good job of dropping into coverage a couple times last game. I'd include a bit of that. Getting a turnover and a short field could be huge for us this game.

I am positive this QB is a good one. He just needs time at the helm. I have seen freshman make great plays and other times turn out to be duds. i hope the Irish win but do not underestimate his capabilities

I'll be shocked if Georgia doesn't go into the game with a reasonably balanced game plan.

One observation I heard from a local media (for Georgia) podcast was that despite Smart's heaps of praise for Fromm's readiness to handle a big stage, he carefully skirted a question about how much of the playbook Fromm is prepared to run.

I'm sure the kid will be ready to go, but it might limit the adjustments they can make - if they need any - at halftime.

Fromm is a comptitor and a leader. He knows most of the playbook. Remember he came in back in the spring and has a reputation as a film junkie.

The questions are will he know enough to look off receivers or find a second or third receiver? Will he be able to check off to a better play after reading a defensive alignment (which Elko is sure to change)?

If I were Notre Dame I would shut down the run and force the Freshman to beat you with his arm and see if he can make good decision after good decision. I would also mix in some blitzes to see if he is prepared to handle it. Between a young O line and Freshman QB, bring some pressure and see how they handle it. I wouldn't let him get comfortable in the pocket.

I'm sure Fromm will be well prepared. One thing that might work a bit to our advantage is that with both the offense and defense being entirely brand new at ND, there isn't much ND film - defensively or offensively - to study. I think Elko's play calling was for the most part pretty vanilla, and we haven't seen much of anything different. I'm sure he's got stuff to call. And offensively, we really didn't try to test the field vertically too much.

Making a new QB beat us with his arm in his first start in ND Stadium sounds like a good plan if we can get our safeties on board.

Stopping the run . . . I like that idea.

Kirby Smart talked on Monday about looking at Memphis film, and talked about a Memphis game he watched last season where they scored TDs on five straight possessions while he was watching. He's very aware of Chip Long.

Sure, I get that that there's film from Memphis and Wake Forest to study, just not from from ND with the present personnel. I think that sort of thing has limited our own preparation in the past. Kinda why I said ND film. Maybe it doesn't make a single bit of difference.

Well App State did it for awhile. We just wore them down. Not likely we wear Notre Dame down. We have to find a way to get the LBs out of position more likely.

One of the criticisms of our top LB's play last week, and last season, is that he tends to get caught up in traffic.

Fromm isn't a statue, but I don't think his legs would be what would win us a ballgame. I especially don't think we'll try to move him out of the pocket considering our depth under him. If I were ND, and this is an obvious strategy, I'd load the box and make Fromm beat you. And until he does that, keep blitzing. He is a competitor, and I'm hoping he turns some heads. Here's to a healthy game, looking forward to experiencing a new, great environment

Every time you blitz, a slot is open to run through or a WR is open.

While that is a plausible thought, the theory is to pressure the young QB, and make him hurry his throws just a bit, make him uneasy back there.

We should have two relatively good teams playing each other. Both offenses appear to have really good o-lines and a running game. Both teams have decent QB's and a passing game. Both defenses seem to solid. Of course, this is based on 1 game. Georgia beating App st. and Notre Dame beating Temple. o_O

Type Edge
QB Notre Dame
RB Toss up
0-Line Notre Dame
WR Toss up
Kicker Georgia
D-line Georgia
Linebackers Toss up
Saftey's Georgia
DB Toss up

To me pretty even. Irish win only because of home field advantage Although who knows You never know how many people sold their tickets to Dawg fans., I remember Nebraska @ Notre Dame:eek:

FWIW, I would give the LBer edge to UGA. Smith in an all SEC candidate and Patrick is pretty darn good as well. The outside LBers are probably pretty even.

Kicker is probably even.

Nothing that is called on Saturday night will be because he doesn't know the play book. Just saying.

He knows the playbook. Might not have the experience of lining up against college players, but the playbook won't be a problem. And he will carry adjustments to the 2nd half just fine.

He won't be shocked or awed. He is way beyond that.

He will not play like you assume. What happens Sat night in South Bend will not be because he is a freshman. Not beating my chest here. But don't assume he is a liability in the least.

Looking forward to the game. Yep, gotta play the game.

Play well Irish!
Go Dawgs!

A little overreaction to my post. I just repeated an observation made by several Georgia media outlets after Smart was asked if Fromm had a grasp on the full playbook. He didn't give a straight answer. And that's cool, he didn't have to. But that opened some media speculation, and all I did was repeat it for discussion. I wasn't assuming anything. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I'm very happy to hear that Fromm won't play the way I assume, because I've assumed all week long that he's going to play very well. Earlier this week, I commented that I expect you guys to come out with a balanced game plan and that we should prepare for him like a veteran. He's not going to just hand the ball off all day. And I'm not a fan of the idea getting tossed around to sell out on the run and "make him beat us with his arm" - just because he's a freshman. When some of your fans talked about how Fromm thew some passes that would get picked off by better teams, I shared Kelly's counter suggestion that he saw Fromm throwing the ball where he knew his receivers could get it. Again, I'm not assuming that Fromm's a liability. I assume he's got the ability to move the ball around enough to make us respect the pass, which will open your run game.

As far as being overwhelmed by the moment, Notre Dame's had more inexperienced quarterbacks from opposing teams walk out of Notre Dame stadium for the first time looking like Heisman candidates than I care to remember. I'm not assuming Fromm will get overwhelmed by the moment.. Since I've followed Notre Dame football, I've never seen that happen. I have yet to see any Notre Dame fans around here say that either. I really don't think you're getting that from here. I assume that like the very, very, very, many great quarterbacks that have visited Notre Dame, he won't be overwhelmed by the greatness of being at Notre Dame. And I'd guess he'll have plenty of fans to keep from getting homesick.

So thanks for the pep talk about my assumptions about how Fromm will play. I'm quite relieved.

We're fans. Beat your chest about your team if you want. You might get challenged about what you say, but there's nothing wrong with having confidence in your team.

Hey irish, not chest beating at all. That is not something I partake in. I think you will find that most UGA fans who have come onto this board have been respectful that this is your house.

The coach speak misconception, especially when trandeferred to another board, can be a slippery slope. I was just pointing out issues about the quarterbacks moxie. He isn't a chest beater either.

I believe you misread me on that one. Was just offering insight.

Good day to you.

You have to give credit where credit is due. The kid looked awesome. Kept his cool and didn't panic even when his receivers dropped passes that were right in the numbers. He ate the ball when he had to and he scrambled when he had to. All in all, he did a great job.

Wonder how Eason feels about Notre Dame. We like to play transfers.

You sure missed some key areas, I was expecting a great ND OL, we haven't gotten that much pressure on qb since Pollack was playing. RB was nowhere close to a tossup nor was LB.

This was an opinion based on watching both games. So you are the obnoxious gloater and chief. the score was 20 19 not 47 19 . IMHO Wimmbush and the o-line did not perform well, Your D was good. So be gracious
