Last year the lack of depth along the DL was something we were really worried about and our fears turned out to be true. An injury here and an injury there along the DL really crippled the units performance. Having to use that many freshmen is never a recipe for success.
Now this year the safety position is really worrisome (not that the DL is a playoff caliber unit). Redfield and Shumate, although talented have not been getting it done. We saw both of them being benched for Austin Collinsworth and Tranquil (another freshman). Now Tranquil is injured and collinsworth is gone and given the complexity of BVG's defense, I'm afraid this unit will be as bad as last year's.
I think an 8-4 record might be this team's ceiling. I know ND will lose to Clemson and USC...hopefully we can beat Georgia Tech and Stanford.
