Is Joe Alt a first round pick?

The top LT in each draft goes by the middle of the first round at worst. Now whether Alt can become that guy, we will see this coming season.

He will be first rounder for sure, might project better as rt in the pros, but likely a first rounder

Agree on RT. Really tough to predict this over a year away.

If Q can stay for four seasons, anyone can.

Yes. He'll be the number 1 tackle off the board most likely. Top 10 potential
Only if they project him as a LT. He won't be the first off the board as a RT which is his projection in NFL right now. That can change, but he has work to do and has to have a good workout.

Q was the first off the board in his draft as a pure guard

Mcglinchey was the first tackle off the board that draft as a RT

Yeah and neither had to deal with a 320 lbs pure lt that is rated better than them in the same class from PSU. The dude would be the likely first pick this year much less next.

RT? Not good enough to play LT? He is (yes possibly inflated) 6'8 and 315 lbs and only a sophmore. While I predict he will leave if he has a good year it is a position where a bit of age / maturing is a good thing. We will see but seems like a perfect LT to me.

overall lateral agility and quickness are the deciding points between LT and RT. How quick are his feet will tell the tale of what position he will play in the Pros and how high he will go

Q was rated higher than the kid from ped st. Hes just a guard though. But his rating was higher. Lot of people had him number 1 overall player

The kid from ped st is a good one but not someone that Alt cant pass up

Alt is light years better now than McGlinchey was as a senior. Playing next to Q benefitted him greatly.
I didnt say he wasnt. Even though I dont agree with you it wasnt light years. Mike was a much better run blocker than Alt is right now. He punished people and set an edge along with Q.

Mike was dominant in the run game. Joe is not right now. Not even close

wow you are so wrong there I do not know where to start
It's not even close in my opinion. Mcglinchey should never be a left tackle at any level. Alt as a sophomore is way more polished than Mcglinchey ever was at the college level. Mcglinchey was a solid run blocker and a below average pass blocker. Alt has far superior athleticism and has flawless technique for a young player. Ridiculous how good he is at this age. The only two guys that I can think of in recent memory that were this good this young is Q and Aaron Taylor. Elite company.

At the same point in their careers Alt is the superior run blocker. I expect that to only get better as he physically matures. You can be just as effective as a run blocker without pancaking your opponent every play. Harry said Alt is the best tackle he's ever coached.

You were wrong. Hes not even close to the run blocker Mike was as a senior.

Maybe Alt is the best Harry coached. But I usually dont take coaches serious when they are talking about their current guys. They always exaggerate

You really need to take off your rose colored glasses. Really you are wrong down the board about both players

Yikes. You are off

Mcglichey has major issues with athletic edge rushers.. that's why he wasnt seen as a pure lt. Right now alt is the 2nd tackle on most boards and that's debatable with old boy from Alabama. If Alt was coming out with three years under Harry he'd get the benefit of the doubt most likely, but he's not. He's going to be coming in having played for three different ol coaches in three years. He has work to do to be top ten... But he's gonna be good solid pro

All-American?

There's a website called "Mock Draft Database" that does an aggregate of different mock drafts from around the internet. It's not a scientific system by any means, but it's a great starting point for this kind of conversation. Here is their top 10:

1. Caleb Williams QB USC
2. Marvin Harrison Jr. WR OSU
3. Drake Maye QB UNC
4. Joe Alt OT ND
5. Michael Hall Jr. DL OSU
6. Jared Verse Edge FSU
7. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. LB Clem
8. Olumuyiwah Fashanu OT PSU
9. Brock Bowers TE UGA
10. Emeka Egbuka WR OSU

There are probably 3 or 4 players who are off the radar right now who will shoot up into the top 10 by draft day next year. Maybe some of them will pass by Joe Alt. Still, he's definitely in the conversation as one of the top few picks if he continues to develop.

Whatever small cracks he has will certainly be a point of emphasis this season. Every Mock Draft has him as a Top 10 pick. One has him at #2, another has him as the 4th player off the board and they all have him inside of the Top 10.
