lost due to being dominated in the paint, last year it was Towns, this years couple guys dominated, Auguste was a great player and Colson is 6'5" with the heart of a 7 footer, just came up short, great run Irish!

When we got up 52-51 after being down by 11 or something, I truly thought maybe we'd come back. But looks like they just ran out of gas.

Great run by the Irish and Coach Brey. Kept me interested in the tourney after my bracket was destroyed. I just hope Syracuse doesn't win it. Can't stand Boeheim or that program. If Jackson returns, the Irish have the makings of another good team that could make it back to the Elite Eight next year. Go Irish!

I think you're right. We just ran out of gas. They had a deeper, bigger team and we just didn't have the bench to stay fresh.

Terrific tournament, though.

Maybe asshat Swarbrick will let Brey recruit actual players to have a full roster now.

"Asshat" seems to be doing a pretty good job with ND athletics. If you think they are going to let guys in who have no hope of making it in the classroom, you are sadly mistaken.

I do think, though, that our move to the ACC may have actually helped because our recruiting seems a little better. Just need a few more decent players so we can have some semblance of a bench.

Good run better team won go nova!
Typical fake ND fan. Football only. Yea the football team that underachieves yearly. Props to Brey for getting every ounce he could out of this team. He's not allowed to recruit the kind of players Kelly does in football.

You do realize the restrictions he puts on ND men's basketball recruiting, right? You're clueless. The school couldn't care less about basketball. It's football only and that program is all hype. What's Swarbrick won as ND AD? What's Kevin White won at Duke? Gain some knowledge bro.

HDK wasn't able to see the holes on the team tonight. Not Brey's fault. I dont think ND got a stop the final eight minutes. It was embarrassing to watch the UNC giants getting every rebound. Swarbrick still won't let Brey have a chance at real recruits. Congrats to Brey. He does an amazing job with a lousy AD.

The refs sucked. Last foul was a joke on Jackson plus there were other bad calls. Brey has big men wasting away on the bench but refuses to use them. Vasturia could have been replaced by a big man since he was off the whole tournament. Ryan never panned out as expected and UNC shot the lights out and made that flukey tip in to change the momentum. Oh well. It's on to football season...

End23 you blow. Hit the road wannabe Irish fan. Why do you watch the games? Is End23 jelly of Jack? Seems like it. You have no idea who or what Brey can and can't recruit.

WE ARE ND!!!

the foul call on vasturia was a killer . what a terrible call. It wd have been 55 -55 on the VJ 3 pt shot.

They dominated the glass and the paint. The 15 minutes of killing the shot clock to 3 seconds, didn't help. Can't get a good look/shot when you're struggling to get it off.

The burn offense is meant to limit defensive possessions, and I think it kept them in the game a while, in the ACC tournament they played faster and the beat down was 40.

We never got Auguste going. Colson played so well. Coach Brey wanted to play like we did against Kentucky
last year: open up the floor and just one big. We played great offense, we just could not shut them down. And yes that foul call on Vasturia was deadly.

Jack Swarbrick has as much to do with admissions restrictions as you do. The admissions department and the athletic department have very little overlap. Mike Brey enjoys the same latitude in recruiting as Brian Kelly, Muffet McGraw, or Mik Aoki for that matter. The only difference for Brey is that one miss in a three man recruiting class cripples the team, whereas Kelly has more margin for error with a 20-25 man class.

Swarbrick doesn't set the academic standards used in athletic recruiting.

What "big" guys do we have wasting away on the bench? UNC was going 6'10", 6'10", & 6'9" across the front for a lot of the game. Do you think Burgett, Torres or Geben were really going to be any more effective than Vasturia and Beachem were?

I watched the entire game and ND played as well as they could. I think they shot something like 65% the first half, which is ridiculous considering they were shooting a lot from 3 point land. The main reason ND lost was due to the size of NC. They could not deal with NC's size and NC got some easy baskets in the paint and kept the ball alive with offensive rebounds. Turning point in the game was the offensive foul on Vasturia on Beachum made 3 pointer. Not only was NC hitting everything from the paint they were on fire from the outside as well. Very difficult to beat a team that is bigger, more athletic, and has a deeper bench when they are hot in those aspects of the game. Very proud that they played the entire game. Gives some younger guys some great experience even though some did not play. My only complaint was that it seemed the refs were calling some pretty touchy fouls on ND at the beginning of the game but letting NC bang the boards.

Was not aware "Asshat" ran admissions too. Not a bad AD. Football is decent. Men's basketball is decent. Women's basketball is great. Hockey, lacrosse and soccer have all been good in recent years

As I recall, Kevin White was reviled at ND. Didn't even know he was the Duke AD, as I don't follow this stuff obviously as closely as you, but last I checked, Duke won the basketball title last year and suddenly have a decent football team.

I can see the holes plain as day in the basketball team. Played out just as I expected last night.

DJ played like a champion last night. Gutsy effort from a class kid. Hope he comes back and I hope we can get some help on the boards.

Nice post! Superior talent won this one. The officiating has been subpar the entire tourney, imo.

Great run by the team. Making the Elite 8 two years in a row was quite an achievement, for the first time since '78 and '79. We basically lost to the most talented team in the country both years, so there's no shame in that. I expect UNC to be cutting down the nets next Monday night.

I agree, that was a huge momentum shift, and seemed like garbage at the time (never saw a replay). It was all downhill from there. Still, UNC is a great team, and ND did very well to get to the Elite 8. It was a good run.
