Ar end of 2016 season---hire back Bob Diaco as defensive Coach. Give Sanford title as Offensive coordinator and Head coach in waiting and a big raise and give Kelly an ultimatum--win at least ten games or else.
With the offensive tools we have available with either Kizer or Wimbush starting as QB---Sanford will gain confidence as a Boy genius and will develop delegating and Head coaching skills in the mean time. And Kelly will have a chance to redeem himself for the 2012 NC game debacle and coach
Bob Diaco will have plenty of athletic and experienced defenders to rebuild his resume.

Well since Diaco was an awful d coordinator who even let crappy Michigan teams carve us apart in the big house Kelly would be lucky to win 2 games under this scenario.

Better yet fire Kelly and bring in a world class coach and we'll finally be back to winning again. Keep it simple.

I don't understand the end game of those wanting to keep Kelly around. I would think that even the most pessimistic ND fan would think that at a very minimum an ND coach should win 9 regular season games 3 consecutive years. For Kelly to accomplish this it would take him winning 9 games in years 8, 9 and 10! So 10 years to have 3 consecutive successful seasons?

Does anybody really think the pressure on Kelly isn't going to be excruciating next season? It's been 7 years and it's time to move on.

Bodi, you're leading with your chin with this one. Dollar rollers reply is funny as hell, but also on point. It's one thing to have a succession plan, and another to set it up where the HC failure to win enough games triggers it. I much prefer the idea of Sanford leaving after this year for a head coaching position in a less stressful situation where he can prove he can successfully run a program and gain valuable experience that MAY make him a viable candidate for ND several years from now. As for DC, I expect and hope Kelly to make a great hire at the end of the season, preferably some young up and coming coach who has a proven record of success.

Don't you think it may create a wee bit of dissension or awkwardness to promote Mike Sanford to "coach in waiting" with a big raise while at the same time telling the head coach that he has to win 10 games or else?

This free message board thing has really got it going on. Fans now have to power to make decisions such as hiring and firing. If it were that easy to project your emotions onto people who actually have the experience and knowledge to hire and fire. I think that the candidates list needs to be narrowed down to a manageable size, then rushed right over to Jack's office. Let him know the anonymous free message board , the same bunch who had no complaints last year, request that BK end his relationship with ND asap and interviews should start immediately, if not sooner.
