I’m pessimistic about the game today

31 years, ND’s major bowl drought is to old to date Leonardo DiCaprio. I hear it every year, “we’re back” “this is the year” etc…sounds like decades and decades of Cubs fans. Will it take ND 100+ years to climb the mountain?

I’m tired of the talk, I’m tired of hope, just show up and win the damn game! I’m still livid about losing The Fiesta Bowl to “I’m a man, I’m 40”.

Rally sons of Notre Dame:
Sing her glory and sound her fame,
Raise her Gold and Blue
And cheer with voices true:
Rah, rah, for Notre Dame
We will fight in ev-ry game,
Strong of heart and true to her name
We will ne’er forget her
And will cheer her ever
Loyal to Notre Dame

Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame,
Wake up the echoes cheering her name,
Send a volley cheer on high,
Shake down the thunder from the sky.
What though the odds be great or small
Old Notre Dame will win over all,
While her loyal sons
Are marching onward to victory.

Georgia has been playing toss up games all season long. Although they could win, this is far from even last year's SEC runner up Bulldog squad.

Georgia will be more than ready. ND usually gets everyone’s best shot. Today will be no different. ND will also show up and be ready to go. Freeman and the staff know what’s at stake. I’m going with law of averages. It’s time to exercise some demons. “What tho thee odds “. Go Irish !!

My boss is a massive die-hard Georgia fan. There's some uncertainly on their side as well. Backup QB starting his first game. He's concerned that Notre Dame could attack them like Georgia Tech did on the ground, as he basically said the only game Georgia was good against the run was vs Texas.

I'm concerned about Leonard panicking and pulling the ball down.

I believe the backup QB concern for Georgia isn't as massive as most think. Stockton broke every single HS record, even records held by Trevor Lawrence. Georgia has a stud backup QB.

I feel you brother. I thought Ohio State last year would finally be the moment we beat a big dog.

In the past I had expectations we would win against Bama (2012) and Clemson (2018). I was actually so confident we would beat Clemson in 2018 that I was depressed for an entire week after that game. I thought it was so pathetic that I let a football game, that I wasn’t even playing in, effect me for such a long time. Since then, I’ve gotten rid of all my expectations and I’m no longer disappointed after a loss.

Enjoy the game for what it is, entertainment. Don’t go in expecting a win or a loss, just try to be grateful we get to watch another game of our beloved Irish and enjoy all the emotions it will bring out, good and bad.

Go Irish!

I am sure he has a great arm, is a good athlete, etc. But, without actual playing time in games that matter, he may have difficulty reading defenses and processing live action. That is what separates great high school QBs vs great college QBs.

I think they are more than capable of winning this game. I never felt that way in 2018 and certainly never ever in 2012

I know it’s a team sport, but one QB has been a starter for multiple years in college and other hasn’t been a starter for multiple games in college.

If ND can’t win this one, the program is permanently second tier.

This is a bad take. Notre Dame is 12-1 in Freeman’s third year, they have recruited well and have a really good record against ranked teams.

No one recruits better than Georgia and if not for Nick Saban and there not being a 12 team playoff last year, they probably have 3 straight national championships.

We have a ton of injuries and Stockton was a top 100 recruit. Losing this game does nothing to change the trajectory of the program, which is pointing way up.

Too simplistic. Lots of intangibles. Which ever team controls the line of scrimmage has the best chance of winning in a clean game. Turnovers as always the biggest of those intangibles.

What prior game experiences lead you to believe that he will panic

“Entertainment” ?

This is far more important than just entertainment, this is about a return to glory

“Entertainment” ? Are you related to Allen Iverson?

Here is the secret sauce to winning big games against strong talented defenses. Go watch the 1986 ND v LSU game under Holtz. Then re-watch the 2019 game v Georgia under Kelly. When the running back which was mainly 1 guy under Kelly or maybe a WR on a jet sweep hits the hole they stand up straight expecting to be tackled. But under Holtz he would consistently run 3 or 4 different backs right into the heart of the defense running hard through the tackles with their head down. In the 4th quarter the LSU defense was worn out and backed off. It's all mindset and physicality. Run different backs consistently into the Georgia line. Don't get too creative with pass plays where the QB is constantly scrambling. That gives their D more confidence. Pound, Pound and Pound into their D line then light them up with some different pass plays then go back to the run. It's all basics. It works. Denbrock should run Love, Williams, and K. Young right at them and Price wide b/c he goes down too easily up the middle and he is better in space. Leonard can run after the D softens or on broken pass plays. Then in the 4th quarter kick their ass. That is the secret sauce. Georgia is only as good as you let them think they are.

Dude, i'm as pessimistic about this game as any.

Two things.

One, ND has a well established track record of embarrassment against teams like UGA. It ain't been pretty!

Second, I worry and feel that our patch work defensive front is going to finally be exposed. They got away with it against a soft schedule, but you better believe UGA will push this issue all game. I would if I were them.

In light of yesterday's events, shall we say, I just wonder how much that could throw things off and just add this totally unexpected element into the mix out of left field. As far as being totally focused and dialed in and all that. The mental game.

I’m very concerned about this game as well. Kirby will have his team hitting hard and trying to intimate ND. Hopefully we control the LOS, win the turnover battle and move on to PSU. Go Irish!!

ND has played UGA twice since 2017 and both losses where 7 points or less, and those were much better UGA teams, so point 1 is not quite right. Could we lose? Sure, but we match up ok, so could we win? Sure, absolutely

Not only did we beat Georgia boys, we beat the SEC champion Georgia, who beat Texas twice by the way, 23 to 10 and completely ****ing dominated them

I didn't think ND had a snowball's chance in hell to win that game. The Georgia defense as everything I expected it to be, but our defense was double what I expected it to be.

Our defense, Mitch Jeter, and special teams (especially that gorgeous kickoff return) were what did it.

It was a great win. Dominant defense, and complementary football. And RL delivering. I don't know if he's an NFL QB or not, but if we can eke out two more wins, he's gonna be a ND legend.
