High School kids created a fake recruit, posted they had offers from Alabama, UGA, Florida, etc... & Rivals & 247 awarded them 3 Stars... No film, no analysis, no person even exists, yet the national analysts (that Chase says should be trusted, not the coaching staffs) gave them 3 Star ratings & an “evaluation.” How did they evaluate him? Lol. And they have him rated above other actual real recruits...

LOL

But, your problem is that the teams with the players that those services rate the highest keep making the playoffs and/or keep Winning the NC.

247s composite rating is automated based on whoever ESPN and Rivals adds to their database so Rivals made the idiotic mistake of adding some prospect that didn't really exist to their database not 247. This is the very beginning of the recruiting cycle and any recruit that didn't really exist would have gotten snuffed out/dropped over the course of the year.

Mistakes happen, processes get refined, and you move on.

So how does he have an “evaluation” report?
And how is he ranked higher than other recruits?
It’s pretty simple, he was given a rating solely based on having an Alabama, UGA & UG offer. No national analysts “evaluated” him.

Businesses cut corners .. big surprise. This is definitely going to be a hit to Rivals credibility in an ultra competitive industry where credibility is everything. But im not surprised that these type of logistic issues/mistakes happen and this is something that would have eventually gotten caught over the recruiting cycle. The recruiting info out there for the 2020 class is pretty rough right now anyway since it's so early in the cycle.

What this mistake also does is highlight how little confirmation is needed regarding a prospect's offer list. Which is why i don't put a whole lot of credibility on those. Recruits/prospects (real or fake) embellish these and most of the offers out there aren't commitable/actionable anyway.

anyone who thinks those sites are gospel are fools. Saban talked about them in an interview where he said they don't utilize them when determining who they recruit. they go by there own evaluations of a players fit into there program from every angle. "Fit " is huge for every program. the guys who evaluate that the best are the ones having the most success.

Those teams have great coaching too.

Hilarious...he might not use them based on giving offers but you get your ass they use them to direct attention where it needs be.

The sites themselves are absurd.

Let's go back old school with the blue chip publications and word of mouth.

P.s.
A good coach too

When coaches like Saban start publishing their boards/evaluations/ratings for the public we can start comparing their efficacy with those published by 24/7, ESPN, Rivals, etc. until then it doesn't matter what Saban or any other coach says for that matter. 99% of the stuff they say is nothing but worthless PR drivel/coach speak anyway.

Moreover, I would LOVE to see what Saban's record was if there was a round robin draft of HS prospects instead of a laisezfaire free for all recruiting war.

Exactly.

You put too much credibility in these sites period. I agree with some of your posts but the recruiting sites... no.

I put credibility on units of measurement/data bro. That's what these evaluations are. "How does this player measure relative to this other player?" If these sites and their staffs full of scouts and reporters didn't exist what would be the alternative ?

for coaches it would be business as usual. no credible staff is using those subjective sites for anything.

The local & regional analysts do a FAR SUPERIOR job of watching film, attending games, an analyzing recruits. And when you go back & look after the graduate (on this site they do a 5 year review) they are way more accurate than the national guys.
The analyst on here posted he wasn’t sure what film they watched to evaluate the kid & make a report (Rivals had since taken down the “evaluation report”) & how they could give him a 3 Star but Paul Moala a 2 Star initial ranking.
That’s the point. The national guys are lazy & don’t review film or analyze players. They look at offers, at highlights & mostly camp performances (at their own camps).
Heck, last year the national guy who was responsible for Kyle Hamilton admitted on our site he only saw Kyle play once ever (as a Junior), hadn’t reviewed his film, & since Kyle didn’t attend the Rivals 5 Star Challenge it was hard to properly evaluate him. Yet the local & regional guys said they reviewed all the Safties in the top 250 & Kyle was #1. (247 agreed & ranked him #1).
If you want really good analysis of the recruits you should read the stuff done on here by actual analysts on the premium site. Even IIO watches & breaks down more film of players than the National guys do.

most if not all staffs rely on the local birddogs for their info. i know lots of recruiters who will speak to local current or former coaches before even contacting a kid. the networking is amazing between high school coaches, alumni and the like.

NDA does not addressthat the services relate to the teams that win.
There is an undeniable relationship.

Last years #1 player just led his team to a National Championship.
NDA? LOL on that?

stevie wonder could see he was the #1 player.

Will the DE recruit out of Germany get an “evaluation” and some stars?
He still doesn’t have any.

Actually, yes, LOL.
Last year after Lawrence committed to Clemson & Fields wasn’t committed closing in on NSD, for no reason at all Fields jumped Lawrence until he committed, then Lawrence went back to #1 afterwards. LOL

And anyone can look at the top 10 players & day they are elite. The national services get lazy. Alabama identifies elite talent, then the services give those players elite ratings, not the other way around.
The reason the services look correct is because they are hedging their bets that Bama, Clemson, OSU, etc is evaluating talent correctly & will win.
The services are identifying & evaluating talent that teams look at, the teams are doing it & the services copy off of them.
This example proves that. They awarded an imaginary person Stars based solely on an offer from Bama.

Ok
the team with more elite players 30
other team 3
And it has been the story for a few decades.

How about the team with less elite players 44
Team with more elite players 16

Just happened...

anybody remember a player maybe ten or more yrs ago from somewhere in Nevada I believe that made up a story about having div 1 offers schools like cal and other west coast schools who didn't even know who he was and yet he had an announcement day I believe where chose won of those schools in front of a bunch of people

The local analyst has a full page evaluation on him, even with film breakdown.

I can’t paste the film breakdown, but I can put the evaluation on here.

LOL i saw that special on ESPN or whatever. I think it was from the 2008 class. Funnily enough, the kid that perpetrated that hoax ended up getting a full ride at a junior college and being one of the better players on the team and then transferring to an FCS school

The part in the video where he's thanking his family busts me up :D:D:D

Some posters jump on the services, but they fail to point out the ‘misses’ by the coaches.
Projecting kids is an inexact science.

Considering coaches and services, the % of booms to contributors to busts a crap shoot.

That’s not even the point here.

Coaches spend time evaluating players & going after who they think are the best fit.
If they miss, it’s not because of lack of effort.

The point here is that national (not local or regional) recruiting analysts don’t put in the effort to properly evaluate players. And to compound that laziness, they don’t take feedback from the local guys who work for the same employer.

It’s not about hits & misses, it’s about doing their job properly.

Exactly! The point I get out of it is some fictional player gets a fictional offer from Alabama and the national recruiting clowns give him a 3* without any film eval. It tells you the star system is not accurate

It becomes less accurate as you move down the rankings. ie, most obvious to less obvious. That’s pretty obvious.

That sounds like some socialist soap boxing to me.
