Any knowledgable guesses who the grad transfer might be that was rumored yesterday? ND needs depth at CB, RB and even a QB with game experience wouldnt hurt.
You have been transferred for someone with some football knowledge.Any knowledgable guesses who the grad transfer might be that was rumored yesterday? ND needs depth at CB, RB and even a QB with game experience wouldnt hurt.
Still nothing new?
I think if we had the choice, a veteran safety who could step in and contribute, kind of like we thought Sebastian was before he got hurt.Any knowledgable guesses who the grad transfer might be that was rumored yesterday? ND needs depth at CB, RB and even a QB with game experience wouldnt hurt.
If it a guy that does not have much pro potential or really values education, being a grad transfer puts you in position to get a post graduate degree at ND, not a bad deal for some guys. Why would a qb want to use his last year of eligibility to be a backup?
Wimbush may not be a lock to start. A grad transfer from a small school who is good may want the exposure ND provides. Why would a qb want to use his last year of eligibility to be a backup?

If I was Wimbush, I'd bolt and I wouldn't blame him one bit. He's waited for his turn. I think he's going to be a good one.if that happens wimbush might bolt

Competition is always good. Look what they did at UOJ and Bama. If ND could find another Russell Wilson it might make a difference.if that happens wimbush might bolt
Wimbush is 100% a lock to be the starter.
A grad transfer at QB would likely be someone looking to come to ND for the degree, not PT.
A CB grad transfer doesn't make any sense for ND, unless a starter from a legit defense wants to transfer for some reason (ie. Cody Riggs).
A safety is a guy who would really make sense. We're razor thing there and that's a position where a new guy could quickly work into a rotation
Safety definitely makes the most sense for ND. I don't want Genmark playing if he doesn't have to. Roberston as a mid year enrolee is a different story, but a swing guy that could be the third safety (or push to start), with Isaiah as the #4 guy there would make me feel a lot better.
I very much wish ND had the depth at WR to move Chase Claypool to Rover and deep enough at corner to move Donte Vaughn to free safety.
An athletic, imposing secondary two years from now would be..
CB: Shaun Crawford (if he was 100%)
CB: Nick Watkins
FS: Donte Vaughn
SS: Devin Studstill
Rover: Chase Claypool
It's that off man and those zone concepts that bother me about Vaughn at corner. He has such the makings of a physical stud who can jam you on an island Ala Richard Sherman, but I also love his range and long stride. He could be a dynamic safety.I agree with wishing that Claypool could play defense, though I would only want that if he had RS'ed in 2016 and focused on playing defense for every minute of college. Dude is a physical stud and I would hate to waste time that he could be producing for us "developing" him at a new position (ie. Harrison Smith and MLB)
But I disagree with you on FS and Vaughn. I think Vaughn was out best CB last year, honestly he looked better than Luke to me for most of 2016. I think he sticks at CB, as long as he's allowed to play man-press and/or zone. (Off-man is clearly a problem for him)
And I am really exicted about the saftey combo of Studstill and Elliott. I think that will be the most athletic we've been at safety since we had Harrison Smith and Robert Blanton playing there (in some packages)

Regardless, I love that ND landed a pair of 6'1-6'2 safeties in this class, that can play. It's been since H.Smith that ND had a 6'1+ guy back there who was an athlete and could get off the hash and run over top of a receiver.
He's fine in zone, but off-man is defintely a problem.
The solution is simple though, like the Seattle Seahawks, Michigan State, or even Ohio State........just don't put him in off-man coverage
(meaning play a field/boundary scheme with CBs and keep him into the boundary)
Let a guy like Crawford play to the field if you need to utilize and off-man type of coverage
Will you accept them if they're pro life? Maybe we can get some transfers from Cal after all the libby cry babies burn the campus down.Any knowledgable guesses who the grad transfer might be that was rumored yesterday? ND needs depth at CB, RB and even a QB with game experience wouldnt hurt.

Exactly why in my projections I have Crawford / Love to the field and Vaughn / Watkins to the boundary. I want big, physical, corners to get their hands on people at the LOS. Let the smaller shiftier guys break to the ball in the field and turn and bail or play trail on those on 9 routes and in-breaking concepts to the field.
I hated the leverage in BVG's defense. Thought it left the defense extremely fundamentally unsound.
Why is Wimbush a lock to be the starter? I'm guessing no one in this board is in practice everyday.
They also got two walkons at safety that look like they can play. Pelini's son is listed at 6-1 and films look really good.It. An that off man and those zone concepts that bother me about Vaughn at corner. He has such the making

In interviews the last couple of weeks BK and the rest of the coaches have said Wimbush is the QB. When they talk about the offense and the QB they specifically mention Wimbush. They haven't just used the neutral term "the QB." Wimbush will be the starter. This will be the first time under BK that there is no QB competition and that's a good thing. In general, QB competitions can be good if you have more than one candidate who has the experience and skills to vie for the position, but we really don't have that this year. This will be Wimbush's 3rd year in the system. He is the only QB with game experience (albeit not much) and his skill set is way beyond anyone else's. If Zaire had stuck around there likely would be a competition but most people thought, if Zaire couldn't win the starting job in 2016, it was going to be very difficult for him to beat out Wimbush in 2017. Why? Because Wimbush is a better runner, has a stronger arm, and was the more accurate passer in high school and, again, this is going to be his 3rd year in the system. Both BK and Denbrock praised Wimbush all last year for how he looked in practices. The handwriting has been on the wall for a while and that likely is one of the reasons Zaire isn't sticking around. Why is Wimbush a lock to be the starter? I'm guessing no one in this board is in practice everyday.
