Good Game Irish fans

He has a long way to go to achieve what Lou Holtz done at ND with the restrictions Lou Holtz had.....happy to say he will not meet the challenge
Look, I will always love and support Lou. I will always be behind my long time posters Irish Slice and DIP. Always.

But to die on a sword over Lou’s comments and say they were not used for motivation and that OSU did not play hard is not accurate.

Now, Many experts/analysts etc have called Day’s teams soft. Lou was not the first. Day knew this. And Day was flat out wrong calling Lou out. That’s classless. Day could n should have called out the experts. Not Lou. For that, I hope he gets his ass kicked

Just stop with defending Lou for his comments. He spoke the truth. But he represented ND hours before the game. He wasn’t on a sports show talking about two other teams - he was talking about his team. The team he loves. It was a miscalculation. He did not help Freeman. I was aghast.

So defend Lou because Day is classless. But stop with Lou being right to say what he did and that it wasn’t motivation

You literally just answered it yourself why Ryan Day brought up the toughness comments, because people like you are keeping alive this narrative that OSU is soft and lacks toughness, right down to Lou Holtz. It was just answered on Saturday night.

I appreciate your coming by and trying to be magnanimous in victory. And understand you can't respond to every post...especially now that you're in the Holtz vs Day rabbit hole!

:)

Day shot his mouth off. Holtz is an 86 year old and speaking from emotion as a famous ND coach. Says more about Day taking the bait and giving a bad look. But even so, eh, it's the usual drama and no big deal, at least to me.

The key to me is ND was actually tougher and better...but for some coaching decisions key moments. Especially in the last ND drive and the 10 man thing. Learning curve for a program that often loses in big game to a big time opponent like Ohio State.

Ohio State is legitimately elite. A true top 3 that can really challenge for a NC. ND is trying to establish itself as that, not just a top 4 playoff team to be emphatically beaten by the top 3.

Finally, there are structural reasons Ohio State is that and ND isn't. We discuss this like crazy on this board. But I supposed you don't want to discuss that...even there may be winds of change for ND in that as NIL, transfers, and charismatic player-coaches degrade stacking, especially QBs, and distribute talent more evenly?

I'm betting my hopes are founded on some realism...being more than deep nostalgia from knowing ND in the 70s and 80s and early 90s, growing up.

That was a hell of a game the Irish played. I know it hurts but you guys should be very proud of your football team.

No one can question the toughness of the Irish after that one. I'm still peeved (and jealous) of how much tougher ND was running the ball, literally running it down our throat, and how OSU for the most part just couldn't stop it. That's the kind of football I'd love to see OSU get back to but clearly they aren't there. I still think OSU holds the edge on the perimeter but ND clearly is the better team on both sides of the line and that sucks to admit.

Good luck the rest of the way and hopefully ND finds their way into the playoffs.

Thank you for the upfront point and how you feel about this subject.
I don't believe I supported what Lou said but what I did was state it had little to no impact.
The stats support that
To be frank I haven't read if Day even used it to fire up his team, but if he did use Lou's comments where did it mpact the game?
ND out played OSU and if it wasn't for a comedy of errors at the end the irish win.
On a personal note i respect you as a poster and I never took your comments as a dig. You are a class act and one of my favorites
Lou Holtz holds a special place in not only mine but my families heart.
I seen him speak at numerous times QB clubs.
So to end this post I never took your cornments to heart and I don't believe Lou's comments made that big an impact. Day should be more worried about his waist line and not what people say about him or his team. People will alway talk crap, but your poor health will kill you
