Good article on Freeman and his vision

Freeman is the perfect fit for ND because he gets it and the ND way. There are not a lot of teams that do not get it just like OSU who has a 20 million dollar store bought team. The NIL is out of control until the NCAA actually grows a pair nothing is going to change. The days of the big two are over with the addition of the PAC 12 schools. ³

It's great for setting lines, but not ranking teams.

In a way, I sort of agree. If we’re picking a playoff then on field results have to matter.

My point is if 10 point underdog wins a game it doesn’t mean the model is wrong. The model is giving the dog a 20 percent chance to win. Certainly within the realm of possibilities.

Not until now. That’s one person and I’m highly skeptical of stories where someone beats vegas by computer models.

Could you elaborate? Is this just once person you’re talking about? Do people use F+ to make millions?

I’ve made 2 attempts to respond but it glitched.

No people don’t use F+ to make millions but they are using similar processes to build predictive models like F+ to beat the Sportsbook.

the real makers of the line are the pro bettors

The problem with the article is not all the players are great players he mentions like they are.

Burnham, Mickey, and Hinish are ok players. Maybe one day Burnham gets it all figured out (hopefully soon because OBEN was bad), but mickey is a solid corner, and hinish will never be better than solid.

I'm super stoked of the improvement in a lot of skill areas under freeman, but our dline is going to drop off like a cliff next year due to poor dline recruiting under freeman/washington. Also, WR needs to get figured out (preferably with a good passing attack starting this weekend) to help recruiting.

Won't fall off a cliff. Too many talented players and the portal if they need to use it both at DL and WR.

Plenty of depth and talent there and you use the portal to supplement it with guys like Oben, Collins etc.

We have a lot of talent coming of age: Traore and Mukam and Young look to have very high ceilings. Hinish is solid and will only get better. Personally look forward to seeing both Vernon and Savillano next year. Definitely not going to have the strength up the middle we have today with across and Mills, but I don’t see us falling off the cliff.

Young and Burnham are going to be a really good tandem at Big End next year I think. Very talented.

Interior will be a battle between Onye/Rubio/Hinish/Mukam/Sevillano/Mullins//Vernon. I still want Vernon to go back to Big End. Maybe be a good number 3 over there

Vyper will be Traore and Thomas imo. With Junior there as more of the play against running teams

Then when we are in sub packages we always move LBs down as well like Sneed

There's also the chance we move LBs down if needed like maybe a Zinter or Kia or who knows

Lot of options. Lot of talent. That's not even including the portal. A step back I see but definitely not falling off a cliff

I'll admit that I like puff pieces about my favorite team more than most people. But saying that Notre Dame is one of the big dogs in college football after beating an A&M team that will be lucky to finish in the 25-20 range is a bit of a stretch. Yes, they do look better. Yes, they have been showing signs of improvement over the past 3 years. But let's see how the rest of the season plays out. If ND is elite they will run the table. Then let's see how they can perform in the playoffs.

ND was already an annual playoff contender when MF took over the job, and that was with four teams. The situation for MF was not mucking up the already well-established and well oiled machine he inherited, while naturally and gradually developing his own thing and identity. And so far he's done at least okay on that score. With the caveat that this is the year, super easy schedule, top flight defense, better make it back into the playoff.

Fyi, the schedule this year is no easier than Kelly's seasons here. Easier schedules began during the Kelly era.

That's wrong. This is a very easy schedule, extraordinarily so. No one is saying that it was deliberately engineered to make it even easier than usual, but nevertheless by chance it is indeed particularly easy. Everyone says so, and the reason they say it is because of how easy it is. Not even Florida St. is any good, and it was already especially easy before that.

Personally, I'm thrilled. I don't care about MF's reputation, or BK's for that matter, vis a vis schedule strength accomplishment or whatnot. I j just want to make the playoff. And it is indubitable IMO that this is a playoff season for us. Our defense is absolutely the proven real deal. And our offense just has to emerge and step up. And the schedule is incredibly auspicious. So there you go....

I had high hopes for Oben, but if what we saw of him last saturday was how he's going to move/play, burnham needs to be getting a lot more reps. It was shockingly bad.

Yeah, I think we'll be better at WR next year than DL (specifically up the middle is my big concern). Onye and Hinish got pushed around, at least hinish shot some gaps and made a few plays.

My concern is how we are able to play the run game currently when you have our interior dline that we have. We can play nickel 90% of the time, and still stop/slow down the run game of opponents. Not sure that will be the case next year. Unless Rubio comes back improved.

Did you watch the biagi interview this week. He talked about our one kick off return we had a chance to bust it if one person had just did what they were supposed to. That was Junior, i went and re watched it. SO bad of effort. He has to be on thin ice with the staff. Pretty sure it was the kick return after A&M scored their TD.

With that said, agree on young, still waiting on burnham to turn it on.

A lot of names on that list, but no one has really played that well (well enough to play over 40 snaps in a game). I'd like to see something to think they can be even close to as good as mills/cross are at gobbling up gaps.

Obviously good enough the last 2 years and against tx am to hold them to 13 points. 5 of those DL played. Burnham Traore Onye Hinish Young were part of the DL that did that Am. That's not including Rubio and Junior who have experience as well

Mills and Cross are obviously way better than those guys right now but they didn't play that well against Am. I wouldn't be surprised if the backups had as good of a pff grade as the starters

Hinish maybe, not onye

Yeah Onye. From what I saw Cross was lowest rated DL in the game

Now I don't buy into PFF but for people that do, Cross was lower than Onye
I hate the PFF system. People crowing about Knapp getting an unheard of PFF score in the mid 80’s didn’t watch the dam game. I think Knapp is one hell of a young stud, but his PFF score is laughable.

There's a ton of controversy over PFF grades (especially as it relates to OL position) but it is one of the only publicly available scouting systems done by professionals so there's nothing really else to go off of.

Yep… Knapp had some good stuff but a lot of bad … also cross was out of shape and rusty but made an impact.. onye didn’t do anything … O’s on our dline struggled ..onye and oben

I believe he got a mid 70s grade?

In Kelly's last year they played one ranked team, Cincinnati at home, and lost. That was by far the easiest schedule in modern times

I don't totally blame Kelly for that though. He was trying to get tier 1 results with a tier 2 or tier 3 roster. Same issue the current head coach at Notre Dame is having. And I think the previous administration (Swarbrick, Jenkins) deserves a lot of the blame.
