Will he correct the turnover problems this year. And if not how many games will he go before he gets yanked permanently?

if they decide on MZ, I would hope DK gets the #2 spot. The only way I rely on EG is if he wins the starter spot. JMO: he is either #1 or #3.

" The old axiom that unequivocally states that having two quarterbacks essentially means you have none never envisioned having Everett Golson and Malik Zaire on the same depth chart. "

EG v MZ

Golson loves practice! MZ loves games! But if the decision is based upon practices: Golson.

This is a very interesting thought honestly. I see where you are coming from and can't say that I 100% disagree, but I think that I would rather have EG coming into a game if needed than DK who has never taken a meaningful snap. If this is the case I would hope that BK would do this before the season starts so that EG would have the chance to transfer somewhere and get a shot at starting. I think that EG will keep the competition close enough though that it will be a 1A 1B type of situation at least until the beginning of the season.

There is also another possibility. EVERETT wants to play in the NFL and

if he loses out to ZAIRE or even has to share the limelight with him he might

feel it hurts his draftavlikty. He graduates in May and could be recruited by some

school that needs a damn good QB for a year. EVERETT could take his diploma and

move on-----------------unlikely, but possible.

Golson will only leave ND if it looks like he will get little to no playing time. His prospects for the NFL will be as a back up or special situation QB so playing that role on a great ND team next season will not be a downgrade in his Pro Status, which is at a low point now anyhow. If he transfers to a program in need of a Scramble / Spread passer, he has to start all over with new coaches and playbook. Not his best course.

If he feels he is not the starter....he leaves. IMO any QB that wants to play in the NFL needs to start as a senior. Now I do not believe EG will play in the NFL.....but he might.

JMO:
if he is not starting, what we have seen of his demeanor on the sidelines tells me it would be better if he thought 'elsewheres'; not starting=unhappy camper=disruptive influence

AND

it would be better to get Kizer some game experience! Next season the #2 is a play away from being the starter!

Kelly's been very happy with his attitude and he showed he was a team player during the LSU game.

I know there will be a lot of moaning and groaning but ND will probably have two quarterbacks next season. The running game works so much better with the QB as a constant threat to run, especially MZ,,, but if either gets hurt, still got a top QB.

define "top" QB? would other fans agree that ND has 2 "top" QB's ? Or would most unbiased observers think that what exists is really an 'unresolved' position. You really think Golson is universally regarded as a "top" QB?

Both EG and MZ are top 20 college QB's.

Golson will start and have a fantastic season while Zaire will get plenty of playing time setting his up for 2016 and 2017l

the sample size on zaire is way too small to put him in that category.

Damn, I am so glad you are not our coach, Pers. Why? Because even if Mallik is the starter -- if he goes down, and that is always a possibility, (SEE OHIO STATE LAST YEAR) our season is over. Kizer has never been in a game! Sorry, but dumb thinking, my friend...

I'm for: Golson starting (if he earns it) -- Malik playing (and ready to go next year) and replacing Golson this year if G's turnover issues continue.

Golson is a winner -- and has had the best first two years of any ND QB! And, our offensive line sucked last year after losing two NFL starters in the draft and our young receivers were responsible for a lot of drops and at least three of those picks.

I will trust Stanford, Kelly and Quinn to make the proper decision. If they pick Malik and Golson goes then I'll live with it.

But if they do pick Malik I believe they will do everything in their power to keep Golson in the fold.

If he does go I hope he pulls a Russell Wilson and takes someone to the natty...

Matt Cassell never started a game at USC.

Believe me, even if Golson doesn't start he will get a look by the NFL. He is every bit as good (and better after two seasons) than Quinn and Clausen. Look at the improvement of both of those guys in year three. I expect the same from Ev this year. By the way he has just as good or better arm than both Brady and Jimmy and he is much more athletic. He is now moving into his third year, remember...

NAME COMP ATT YRDS CMP% YDS/A TD INT RAT[/B]

Golson 256 427 3445 60.0 8.07 29 14 143.6 (12 games + LSU)
Clausen 268 440 3172 60.9 7.2 25 17 132.5 (13 games)
Quinn 191 353 2586 54.1 7.3 17 10 125.9 (12 games)
If he doesn't start it will be because Malik just that friggin' good. (a nice problem to have) -- would you have tossed Brady and Jimmy for Malik after year two?

remember the statement about 3-4 starting level QB's? remember that?
Stats ? what do your eyes see?
You really believe EG is better than JC?

then. no sense going further on the topic. (we are talking college football, right?)

Did you ever 1 time see JC quit on his team? good grief, we have entered bizarro!

Always about Jimmy, never about ND. He quit on his team when he went pro as a Junior (how has that worked out for him?) Never really connected with that kid -- from that moment when he declared at the hall of fame, good arm, talent kid. Average teams during his time at ND, not all his fault but there you go, Golson led us to a National Championship game.

I'll take that season to the bank, the rest are faded memories.

perseverare, there is no such thing as an "unbiased observer" but to answer a defective question from a negatively biased observer,,,, Yes,,, there are and have been many not-ND fans, sports commentators and other programs who think Golson has been, and will again be a "top QB". If MZ beats him to the start,,, he would also have to be considered "top".

"Golson has one year of eligibility remaining and has reportedly received transfer interest from over 20 teams around the nation, including six from the SEC, according to ESPN. "

"Whether Everett Golson or Malik Zaire start at quarterback, Notre Dame's offense is loaded. Four starters return from a strong offensive line, highlighted by future first-round draft pick Ronnie Stanley, who will protect the starting quarterback and pave holes for running backs Tarean Folston and Greg Bryant. Wide receiver Will Fuller returns after a 1,000-yard season and is flanked by three teammates, Chris Brown, Corey Robinson and C.J. Prosise, who finished with between 500 and 550 receiving yards behind him.

X-Factor

Golson. How could it be anyone else? The strong-armed senior was a Heisman candidate during the first half of last season and a punch line during the second half. Unsurprisingly, Notre Dame was a playoff contender during the first half and a punch line during the second half. Once again, he can either make or break the Irish. "

Notre Dame's Everett Golson transforms into top QB....... Each week of the college football season NCAA.com will take a look at the most impressive individual performances. Not sure how going pro early when you have a new coach coming in with an entirely new offensive scheme is per se quitting on your time.
