I have been a ND fan since 12/31/1973 the 24-23 Sugar Bowl win over Alabama, The last big wins ND had were the 31-24 win over FSU on 11/13/1993 and then the win over Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl on 1/1/1994. The program hit the skids. Brian Kelly cleaned it up, organized it, modernized it and teased the fan base in 2012, 2015, 2018, 2020, and 2021. Won 44 out 50 going out the door. But, on the big postseason stage 2012 BSCG, 2015 Fiesta Bowl, 2018 CFP, 2020 ACCCG, 2020 CFP ND got beat like a drum and looked like they had no business being there,

I have concluded that ND (2017 to 2021) was the perfect job for Brian Kelly, but Brian Kelly was not the perfect coach for ND. Marcus Freeman lost his first 3 games, Fiesta Bowl, Ohio State and Marshall, then a flameout vs Stanford, then 10 on the field, 2 road flameouts vs Louisville & Clemson, then N Illinois. Marcus Freeman was sitting at 20-9. However, the man turned it around, and yesterday was the very first time in 31 years ND looked like they belong on the big stage, ND won the game by 13, Marcus & Staff beat Kirby Smart & Staff on the headsets.

So, here we are in the Semi Finals, but it feels different. Now, I know eveyone is annointing Ohio State the champs, but this ND is special, they are the most violent team since the 1988 Championship team. Penn State or Ohio State have not been hit in the jaw, like ND can hit you in the jaw. Oregon, Tennessee, SMU and Boise State are finesse teams. Regardless of what happens Marcus Freeman has shattered the ND glass ceiling of being a Top 5-10 team, and are now legit national title contenders and hopefully this run, looks like Lou's 1988 to 1993, Which if the polls were honest would have produced 3 national titles.

Go Irish beat Penn State!!

Kelly is crapping his pants He has nothing after all his excuses about can’t win at ND He can’t win

Kelly is gone ………… get over it
Get over what? You can't mention Marcus Freeman & ND breaking a glass ceiling and a 31 year Major Bowl streak without mentioning Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly hired Marcus Freeman and brought him to ND as his DC for crissakes.

I am not a Kelly basher, Kelly took ND a long way from the Charlie Weis, 3-9-7-6,6-6 days, and I give him credit for that. But, he basically gave up on getting ND to point where they could do what they did yesterday. He felt LSU would provide him a better and easier opportunity to win a National Championship. So far, it has not worked out, and Marcus Freeman proved ND had more meat on the bone.

I do think it's important to mention that glass ceiling goes all the way back to the 1995 (post-94 season) Fiesta Bowl. It existed for Holtz at the end of his run and for Davie, Willingham and Weis before Kelly.

We arguably haven't shattered it yet, although last night's win was huge. It is the equivalent of making the 4 team playoff, which we have done before. Not complaining though; I'm happy as hell after last night and think it's a great season even if we lose the next game.

The Sugar Bowl is a New Years 6 Bowl. BK never won a NY6 bowl game.

The only thing I don't want is to get blown out in the championship, but that is more PTSD from past years and this team is likely not being blown out by anyone.

BK made it to the championship game once, and the semifinals twice, so MF has a lot of catching up to do, he hasn't shattered anything.

After BK handed him, nay gifted him, an already annually playoff contending program, with which MF took the obligatory couple steps back first before returning us to where we already were before.

COMPLETE AND UTTER BULLSHIT AND FRESH!

Brian Kelly never played in a 12 game playoff at Notre Dame. His three Playoff appearances, all undefeated regular seasons, were a Final in 2012, and semi finals in 2018 and 2020.

No way.
Freeman has already surpassed Kelly for big wins in big time games.
It’s only going to get better fellas.
Future prospects and their parents etc are watching this man and I guarantee the flood gates are ready to open
We need to keep freeman and his coaching staff in south bend.
Notre Dame is back !!!!!

Tell me when did ND win a Major Bowl game or a post season game of significance under Brian Kelly?

ND had 2 at bats against Alabama BSCG & CFP, and 2 at bats against Clemson ACCCG and CFP.. Brian Kelly was 0-4 and ND was outscored 137 to 41 in those game. Not one game was even remotely close or competetive.

Brian Kelly
2012 BSCG ND 10pt underdog 42-14 LOSS
2018 CFP ND 11 pt underdog 30-3 LOSS
2020 ACCCG ND 10 pt underdog 34-10 LOSS
2020 CFP ND 20.5 pt underdog 31-14 LOSS

Marcus Freeman
2024 Sugar Bowl ND -1.5 FAVORITE 23-10 WIN
2024 Orange Bowl ND -1-5 FAVORITE TBD

Marcus Freeman has already cruised past Brian Kelly best. Now he is out to make his own mark at ND

STFU. He’s 38 and a much better coach now than Kelly ever dreamed to be. Kelly handed him a team, that even he, didn’t think was Championship worthy. Fvck you a fvck Kelly.

And he pissed the bed in all of those chances. ND might’ve been “good “ under Kelly, but they were never great. That’s his fault based on the current evidence

When you finish regular seasons undefeated and make 2 or 4 team playoffs on three separate occasions you are more than good. All 3 seasons were damn good accomplishments.

I’m not certain Notre Dame gets in a 4 team playoff this season.

Who fvcking cares what the talking heads, and you think? This team has emphatically proven they are one of the four best teams.

Stick to HS girls track

Great comments. I agree MF has a higher ceiling than BK ever did. As discussed, BK couldn’t inspire and game day call and adjust in the big games. Implosions actually happened…revealing ND also just didn’t have enough talent.

I’ll always be grateful that BK restored ND to competitiveness and left a stocked enough roster. And I believe he played a role in MF getting the job. I wouldn’t have rolled such dice.

It’s clearly worked out. MF is turning out to be a very good coach. Fast learning curve. Has key intangibles while fast learning curve his deficiencies.

But MF is also benefitting from NIL and transfers. Spreading the talent pool so SEC cannot hoard. Acquiring select transfers, like QBs!

😉

MF is the real deal. The perfect coach for this new college landscape. I long ago read Tolstoy…great men don’t control historical pivot points, but know how to exploit and navigate them.

No dig against BK…but no way does he get as much as MF does with the same team. That is the MF x-factor.

You're just a BK hater, and all your opinions and 'takes' on this subject are toilet paper. If you ever wanted to be taken seriously, you shouldn't have been shitting all over the guy like a maniac all those years, without which MF wouldn't even be at ND, taking over the top ten, annual playoff contending program he did that BK left for him when he was whisked off to the SEC. You're a hater, and your opinions on this subject are nothing. And that's the price you pay. You lost your credibility.

I will say though yesterday was a big win , there is yet another big game to be played. What was accomplished was to finally win a “ major “ bowl game for the first time since the 94 cotton bowl. But more importantly, advance to the next game in the playoff. Don’t get me wrong. It was a huge win with so much at stake. But it’s just another step on the journey to the top of the mountain. It won’t be easy. But I believe this team has the heart of a champion. Penn state is all that matters. Go Irish ☘️!!

You are just a guy who has lost the debate, so you have to resort to a childish temper tantrum. Two things can be true at the same time, I agree that Brian Kelly restored ND to a Top 5-10 program, I agree he did bring Marcus Freeman to ND and handed him a program in good shape, So you can stop making lazy straw man arguments.

There are levels to this thing, and anyone with a shred of common sense or intellectual honesty knows Brian Kelly flamed out badly in the post season. I broke down each of the 4 games for you and the results, Which you of course ignored, because it demolished your entire argument, Which was frankly very, very easy to do.

There are 4 levels of team performance above what Brian Kelly did at ND, and Marcus Freeman has already moved ND past 2 of the levels
Get to the post season and look like you belong. CHECK
Get to the post season and win games CHECK
Get ot the post season and win a National Championship TBD
Win multiple National Championships TBD

Again, the only reason I brought up Kelly's name was to illustrate how Marcus Freeman has moved the program past anything BK ever did at ND. If you feel the need to defend Kelly, go to the LSU fan sites and defend him. Because he is being attacked relentlessly by pissed off LSU fans

Don't forget the 2015 Fiesta Bowl vs Ohio State played January 1, 2016. I was at that game. ND lost 44-28 and they were never really in this game. A loss in a major bowl game that was not a playoff game. Big Game Brian.

MF beat the #2 ranked team, SEC champ (you know, from the conference you rub down daily), in the playoffs, in a NY6 game.

Spin that anyway you wish.

BK never accomplished such a thing. Time for you to admit it
