This is looking more and more brutal. From pre-season top 10 and a good bet for 9 or 10 wins to really giving the 2007 squad a run for their money. Someone please tell me how this team wins more than 4 this year.

I have them beating Army and HOPEFULLY Navy (who beat Houston today). That gives us 4 and who knows...maybe a 3-9 season is in store.

-Stanford : Not as good as usual but we will be underdogs for sure
-Miami : They are looking formidable...underdogs
-VT : Destroyed NC today. Looking very tough and we will be underdogs.
-AT USC : No way we are favorited here

So anyone think we beat Army and Navy AND one of the above? This season is a complete disaster.

Yeah, but in 2007 Weis was really dealing with hangover from Willingham's poor recruiting effort.

Kelly has a lot of talent on the this team, and he is squandering it in ways I could never imagine.

We could easily go 3-9 again this year. Who else but Army could we possibly beat?

No chance this team wins 4 games. Kelly is The head Coach. 3 looks like a stretch. This season is epic in it's futility.

There is no way ND will beat Army. Army will be disciplined and give 110%. ND will not be either of those.

Huh? Hell of a hangover in 05 and 06 with Ty's players.. Back to back BCS appearances. BQ, Zib, Bruton, Rhema, Stovall all Ty's guys. You are a joke book.

We are definitely not going to beat both academies. Navy will hand it to us. Hopefully that's the last straw to get Kelly packed and gone

wellout on a limb here but 8-4 is the ceiling 2-10 the floor
3-9 (magic number) is looking likely.

You sound like The Donald. One of his favorite descriptions.

Getting to 6-6 and qualifying for a bowl will be tough. We'll need to start playing much better.

I saw a graphic that predicted ND has 7 NFL draft picks for 2017. That is a lot of talent to squander.

In Stanford , Miami , Va. Tech and USC ,we are looking at four losses , possibly blowout losses. May well lose to Navy also. The only win I can see is Army. And if the team tanks , they could lose that one as well . Total disaster.

HDK has a point. Look at Ty's last few recruiting classes to see how bare the cupboard was in '07. Compare that to the classes that make up this team.

Last week IIO did a great job in detailing how this team is missing recruits who transferred, weren't admitted, dismissed from the team etc.

Still this present team is leaps and bounds ahead of the lack of depth Weis had to deal with thanks to Ty. F

And you are dense as a brick wall. Willingham recruited well after his first season, terribly afterward. As you were able to grasp, Weis did well with Willingham's recruits in 05 and 06, but terribly in 07 because there was nobody left.

Not sold on VTech or Stanford. Miami has a history of looking all world one week and then failing to show on the following week. Navy is annoying but Kelly should know how to beat them by now. USC is starting to look like the second best team in the PAC. I think the Trojans will win in your final. The others are still question marks.

Wasn't that Weis' 3rd season? Huh.. He couldn't have Jrs ready to go? Strong is about to ge ousted in year 3 and nobody is blaming past recruits. BK went to the natty in year 3. Why didn't he develop anybody? Giving him a pass? Look @ BKs recruits and their influence on that 12-0 run... Significant

I look at the remaining schedule....and I see a couple of really embarrassing losses. I think Stanford and Navy will be the likely culprits. Stanford will out-physical Notre Dame...and this Irish defense will have no answer for Navy's bone offense. The arm tackling will be sadly comical against that scheme.

The larger question will be can BK survive a losing season...and should he? How this team loses is part of the problem...the look clueless out there...and that points to coaching.

based on what I have seen the Irish have

an average chance to beat Stanford. The Cardinal is falling off big time. D is playing bad, The QB is mediocre at best, no passing game, The good news for notre dame the stanford pass D may be one of the worst in the ncaa,

Navy is a good team can the irish tackle? we win if not can we out score them
Army is the same way not good but not terrible, can we tackle or can we out score them we win

The last 3 games right now look like loses. I watch some film of VA tech and they are better than us right now, Miami appears to be better and SC is going to kill us unless things change.

Again, the point you seem to be either unable or unwilling to accept: Willingham hardly recruited anyone his last two seasons, so after the great class (juniors in '05) graduated, there were huge holes on the roster. People have long argued that Weis should have been able to develop players, but the problem was there were a.) no impact players among those making up the junior and senior classes in '07 and b.) quite honestly too few good role players to help fill in the gaps while the young impact players developed. I remember going into that season with the full knowledge that we would be lucky to win five games.

Then your comment on BK going to a national championship game in his third year makes no sense. First, he had a core of good recruits left by Weis and second, nobody has said he didn't develop some players. Why do you think they went to the national championship game? Just through the will of Kelly's magnetic personality?

But I'm talking about now, as in 2016. This guy is in his seventh year. Everything is his program. It is INEXCUSABLE that his team can be so INEPT at the midpoint of the season.

And I'm not one of those ND fans who actually believes the hype about our team. I looked at the roster and saw we had lots of holes to fill and I looked at the schedule as average at best and assumed the inexperienced guys would struggle early and improve weekly and lay the foundation for an excellent team next year.

Kelly doesn't have a clue about what it takes to win at this level. I've given him every benefit of the doubt going back to his reckless abandon of his first season, his sniffing around for better jobs during the national championship game preparations, the off-field player problems, the unwillingness to recognize that his strategies don't necessarily work, and the rash of injuries the past couple of years.

But now I'm done.

We are a lock for 2 and 10. We are much worse then the 2007 team.

Kelly is not and never was a solid coach who put the emphasis of sound , tough, disciplined football. However, the one thing he likes to do is pass the football.
Our defense still sucks, but I think that it has shown some improvement since BVG was fired.
Kizer and our offense can still put up some points, so I think that ND has the potential to win 4 of our remaining 6 games.
But they also have the potential to be outcoached as well as to
be physically beaten by any of the remaining teams on our schedule.
In any case, this season is down the tubes no matter the final record.

I'm trying to be optimistic. 5-7. Will beat one or both academies, VT and or beat one of the other 3. I could see ND winning next two games. Showing us a little boob. Then slapping our hand away and losing to Navy. Or Army.

This team is capable of losing out. What little defense is on display can get worse. If Kelly hasn't lost this team yet....the other shoe could drop at any time. Its a sad state of affairs.

I can't see better than 3-9. I say we beat either Navy (maybe) or Army (likely)...but we crap our pants versus everyone else. Zaire transfers somewhere else for a 5th year of eligibility after he graduates this spring (following his father's advice.) Kizer moves on to the NFL as a 1st round draft choice. Wimbush takes over @ QB next season and is backed up by Book & Davis (assuming he doesn't decommit.)

Have to believe one more win is the ceiling with this team. But that may be wishful thinking. Army and Navy will run all over this team. Assignment football is not a strong point of this defense. ND can afford zero mistakes vs either. Maybe ND can steal a win vs USC because of the rivalry? Trying to find a win is difficult. This shit is beyond depressing. Monk and Wadsworth killed ND football. Congratulations.
