ESPN's Top Player Rankings

Sounds about right considering how he was moved to the inside. He is NOT an inside backer no matter how proud he is and demanding a shot to play inside as he knows the two tough guys on any football team are the inside backers and full back. Shame on the staff for putting him there.

If Jaylon is moved back on the edge he is a top ten talent in the land. Potentially top five. He really IS that good.

at this level on this team I prefer him inside. he's by far the fastest player to the ball they have. instinctually elite. of course he's a top ten talent. I think the staff did what was in the teams best interest as it should be.

I wish what you say was fact but unfortunately it is not even close.
Jaylon asked to get playing time on the inside. I.e. bugged the staff to move him there.
Two things bad happened with this. The first is Jaylon does not like the smash your head and shoulders into a brick wall mentality on every single running play. That is no disrespect to him because it takes a special kind of care free player to do that on every running play. I don't think you understand the proper way to play inside backer on a running play. You have to take that first block on. It's not optional. It allows the other players free to make the tackle. If you skate on taking that block on....once in a while you might guess right and get the running back but most times he will cut the opposite way in which Jaylon just guessed the run to be going to avoid taking that block on. When that happens the blocker is going to get someone and if the rb is any good he will make the defense look silly. Unfortunately this is how Jaylon plays the inside position and is the opposite of what is needed. There is a perception amongst players that playing inside backer and fullback are the real men on the team. Why? To play it right you are banging heads on every running play. If you aren't then you aren't playing those tough positions proper.
So was there a pride thing going on with Jaylon insisting on playing that spot...maybe.

The other thing is this. Either BVG has no idea what he is doing or Jaylon really has terrible instincts from the inside. So many times last year Jaylon was so far out of the play it was a big negative for the D as a whole. Did Jaylon shy away from taking the block on at the point of attack? Yes he did. Often. But in pass coverage where instincts and athleticism really shine he was nowhere that he should have been on passing players. So on passes either Jaylon really doesn't posess the instincts or BVG has him going to the wrong spot. Probably a combination of both.

Please know I've been a Jaylon fan since we all got introduced to him at the high school army showcase game. He is an amazing talent and he just plays naturally on the edge. Moreover the place most needed of speed amongst linebackers is on the outside. The guys in the middle only have to be quick within the box. The guys on the edge have to be quick and fast. He needs freedom to roam and create havoc.
