I recently spoke with Anthony White, the head coach at Buena Park high school in Buena Park California, the home of 4-star CB Elijah Gates. He told me that Gates is planning on taking an official visit to Notre Dame. He's not sure when it will be, but said it will more than likely be after the season so Gates can get more face time with the coaches then he would on a game weekend.
On August 26, Gates included ND in his top 7 with Nebraska, Michigan, TCU, Oregon, UCLA, and Cal. White said Gates will probably trim that list in the next few weeks. I would expect Notre Dame to make the cut.
