Deuce Knight De-Commit

They have been recruiting other QBs since the summer
When I mentioned that back in the summer you literally stated, "no, they shouldn't recruit another QB, and instead need to push hard to get DK". You continue to talk out of both sides of your mouth, what a joke you are.

I said what I would do.

You said MF should have started recruiting QBs when Deuce stepped foot on campus. And that's what they did.

I didn't talk out of both sides of my mouth. You don't understand between my opinion and what the coaches actually did.

You didn't know they were recruiting QBs in the summer. It's okay. You didn't know

Truth be told, I did not believe MF should recruit another QB as well. I agree with Golson here. Ride it out. Push your chips in. The kid is that good and was worth the gamble.

Show me the proof where they were recruiting other QB's to replace DK in that class.

You can still continue to recruit DK, and recruit other QB's once he started wavering on his commitment.

They didn’t try to get any on campus until deuce committed to auburn… huge mistake. Might end up ok but we missed a great opportunity to get some kids on campus the last 6 months

It wasn't 6 months he was taking visits.

And no it wasn't a mistake. That's how you play it when you have one of the best QBs in the country committed.

You fight like hell to keep him committed. But keep relationships with other QBs.

If he decides to decommit then you bring them on campus.

We didn't miss an opportunity. You just being then on campus during the season

keeping relationships with other QBs while fighting like hell to keep your top committed QB seems like a damn near impossible task. Maybe just checking in on occasion to see if life is good, but can’t see us silently recruiting any plan B qb. All of these top ten QBs have their egos constantly stroked and I personally think you hold back until you are ready to express serious interest and intent, and hope the ND brand gets you in the door. I think this is what happened with Minchey, and I hope this is what happens with the North Carolina and/or Cal commit.

Everyone including nd coaches knew he was wavering MORE than 6 months ago … he was constantly talking to other schools and listening to offers . Go back and look at threads, most realized he was gone in February

That's what everyone said about the USC QB commit too. It's what most irrational fan bases say about all very highly rated players. Esp QBs.

Fans freak out constantly and once in awhile they are right

Mississippi qb that left his ha to return home because he was home sick his junior year… yeah writing has been on the all for a long time. You, me and everyone knew he was gone before the summer … nd coaches didn’t move on or truly initiate plan B until now despite multiple visits last few months

No I didn't know that. But the ND coaches have been in contact with recruits since the end of the summer. And I expect we will land a good QB in this class which we have in all of MFs classes

He didn't leave because he was homesick. He left because he was going to be ruled ineligible

This gets thrown around a lot when ND loses a recruit to another school. Can anyone confirm that this is accurate or just conjecture? Because as a QB at ND you can make a lot of NIL money and it's been reported that ND is a top 10 school for NIL money. Whether that's true or not, i have no idea.
Heard from 2 coaches (Vandy and WMU) that it was $$$ and that family got jobs

I tend to believe it based on some particulars shared

The other problem is, when was the last time ND developed their own QB who ended up starting more than 8-9 games. They keep going to the portal hoping to catch fire in a bottle, and it's backfired 2 years in a row. If I'm a top tier QB recruit, that's definitely entering into my decision when it comes to ND.

This staff has yet to develop a QB. The knock on Kelly was he couldn't develop a QB. At least he tried, the current staff is grabbing average to below average QB's from the portal.

I said this back in the spring when the rumors came out, and your response was "no, you just keep recruiting DK hard and fight for him, all or nothing"

Minchey and Carr are the only QBs this staff have recruited to my recollection, and both are being developed. If they lose one of Angeli or Minchey to the portal, I would expect they will hit the portal again, but for depth at QB. I think there is a lot of confidence that either Carr or Minchey will be the starter next year.

Currently, both Minchey and Carr are sitting behind Angeli. Carr has an excuse, he's only been on campus 9 months. Minchey should have surpassed Angeli by now if he's that good, and yet...

ND has had like one great offense in the last 10+ years (2015). None of their QBs have been stars. Their skill player recruiting on offense is subpar. Their coaching staff on that side of the ball is ho-hum as well. The HC hasn't shown any ability to build a top offense.

If im a high 4-star or 5-star QB prospect entrusting a program with my career why would I choose Notre Dame ?

Angeli has experience in a game and showing he’s ready and capable. Coaches probably believe in minchey and or carrr more long term but the backup isn’t representative of who starts in 2025, it’s who can best help us if Leonard goes down right now.

Great coaches play the best players. They put the best 11 on the field. If Minchey was better than Angeli, he'd be QB2, but for whatever reason that's not the case.

There's limited reps to be had right now for QBs not named Riley. They are giving them to angeli to ensure we have a backup ready. Minchey is getting scraps and working more on development in preparation for 2025. Carr and minchey have an eye on 25, angeli and leonard are 24.

Great coaches play the best player that are deserving, and in the coaches mind that's Leonard. Not any other qbs right now. After that, they have a plan B and C. Example, Leonard goes out for what looks like a play or a series but nothing long term. Angeli in becaus he has the experience. Different example, leonard blows his leg out and is done for the year. Now you have a QB competition between minchey and angeli as they are both getting all the reps in practice, not leonard. Angeli still probably gets first dibs but is on a short leash.
