I think both are top candidates. Rumors that Both could consider. Maasai loses Cook. Seattle is sliding backwards.

Neither. D'antonio is too old and Pete, although old (has more coaching years left than D'antonio) will not leave Seattle so soon; the Seahawks are still is a playoff team.

I think the expectations that would be placed on Pete Carroll if he were to return might be unrealistic and very difficult to live up to. Right now he has a lasting legacy at USC - despite sanctions - including an outstanding 6-7 year run that USC fans insist on calling a "decade" of dominance. Why risk that legacy?

D'antinio might be pretty happy with what he's built at MSU, but that could be interesting.

I'm betting Helton, Chip K or Sean P. Chip will have worn out his welcome if Philly continues to digress, and Sean P has been at NO for almost 10 years.

Beach...is there any likelihood that Peterson will be considered, or that he would even be interested? He did a great job at Boise St and doing better than folks expected at Washington. Thought he would have been a better hire than Sark at the time, and makes me cringe to think of his offense with USC talent and speed.

I won't speak for Beach, but from what I have heard, his wife ( and maybe Peterson himself) isn't too keen on LA.

Helton. Period. Done. No need to discuss another name.
They skipped on him once. They will NOT do that again. That would be PR suicide doing that twice in a row to the same guy.

The nuns always used to say , " It would behoove you........" Am I right perse?

when I went to Catholic School (kinder and 1st grade) the nuns walked forcefully and carried a big stick and yes, they used it, often! get caught running and and get put against a wall where you would feel that stick across the back of your calves. It behooved you to not run or to keep running!

Pete Carroll would be welcomed back in a heartbeat. All would be forgotten and Ws at USC comes before all else. All else. Look who trolls the sidelines and practices and you get the point.

Won't be Carroll, or Helton, or C. Kelly, or Peterson, or B. Kelly.
I can't see Sean Payton on the recruiting trail, either.

I think they truly need to consider Kyle Wittingham. The guy is a great coach.

Whoever it is, I don't see it being an assistant or coordinator from somewhere.
The pressure is on Haden to make a home run hire this time, so they will go with
someone who has head coaching experience and proven success.

Unlike ND, guys will be lining up to take the job in SC, so Haden should have
his choice of qualified applicants.

I think people really need to start looking at Memphis coach Justin Fuente..that guy can coach and he might me a great fit as USC. The job he has done in Memphis is very impressive and he is an outstanding recruiter from what I can see.

I'm not sure guys would be lining up to take the USC job. Both Petey and Sark weren't even in the top five of candidates. Coaches and their agents might be throwing their names out there to create leverage with their current school.

Don't kid yourself - guys lined up previously and guys will again.

Now whether USC admin/Haden CHOOSES the right guy or not, that's the issue - not a lack of candidates.
They've "chosen poorly" the last couple times. That doesn't mean the list of candidates was short.

Maybe he can coach, maybe he can't. Either way, Memphis to USC is a big jump. Too risky for USC.
He needs a few more years at Memphis, then upgrade to a middle-of-the-pack program
for awhile and have success there before he moves on to one of the big boy programs.

He has been at Memphis a few years and has built it up pretty good arent they 6-0 and ranked? I know what you are saying but if I remember right Pete had not coached college in like 17 years and it was at a small school. He was an NFL Journey guy that had been fired and that hire worked out ok. All I'm saying is sometimes people can coach and that is all that matters, I really dont consider Cincy a huge leap above Memphis and Kelly went from there to ND, thats a big jump too and he has done well for us. I just think we get caught up in names of guys and their schools to often. Lane and Stark were big names from big schools and they were busts at USC.

A guy who IMO would be a great fit at USC would be Gary Pinkel.

Done an excellent job at Mizzou and has probably taken that program as far as it can go.

Can't afford to take a chance on a Helton. Need an established guy. Another failure and the program will take years to recover.

Give him a top tier QB, 4 top tier WRs, and a quick small back who can catch in the backfield and I am pretty sure he would believe he would be unstoppable. You all know who I'm thinking of....

True. But USC cannot afford to take a chance or make a risky hire this time around.
They will go for the established, proven winner with a name that everyone knows.

considered sure. Really no one knows much about who Pat is looking at right now. Just a lot of guess. The problem is that Pat is a very good man who is very bad at his job. There is no work-around for bad leadership. The good news is the boster are putting a lot of pressure on for a home run hire, whatever that means.

There is almost no chance it will be Helton

But the hire will likely come from the USC tree, yeah? Isn't that Jack Del Rio? His is the only name I have seen that I thought was from the family. Are there others?

I disagree. If Helton does not want it then it won't be.....but if he does I don't see them a second time around shunning an assistant who held the title interim head coach. TWICE

Don't think that is an issue this time. It failed the last two times. If not a splash it will probably be Wittingham or Fuentes

Something tells me you mean Whittingham. You've seen Willingham's handiwork first hand, and I doubt you'd be interested.

Isn't Coach Wittingham a Mormon? How will that play out in all the glitz that is Hollywood and USC? Isn't that USC's main recruiting point? No, they want someone with pizzazz. Someone with glitter. Someone who understands how USC operates. Someone who has the ability to look the other way and still play along. Someone who can put up with the never ending drama. I'm not convinced the fans and alums want a strict disciplinarian, who rules the roost, and is ready to put integrity back into the USC mission statement. That's why there was a clamoring for Petey to return. He wisely has declined.
