I tend to disagree with Coach D about the significance of Crawford's injury. First off, it is a blow to the depth. Watkins provides a good replacement at corner, so that's good, but Crawford was clearly a huge upgrade over Farley at the nickel and I think Crawford will be a better cover corner than Watkins (I actually like Farley, but Crawford was probably the fastest guy on the D and would have really helped in overall defensive speed). Crawford could have also been a big factor on special teams: punt returns, kick-off returns, kick-off coverage, and as an edge rusher (he blocked at least 3 FG attempts off the edge in high school). As we all saw last year, you need depth, and when you lose players before the season even starts, that does not bode well for the outcome for 2015, especially with the schedule we face. I was sick when I saw the headline about Crawford.
