I think we would have been out of the top 4 even if we beat up on Wake and BC. We might be at 5, but still out of the top 4.
The committee takes a look at stats other than simple point differential, i.e., % of minutes leading, yards differentials, and off/def efficiencies. This ND team was never in danger of losing either game to WF or BC, but we dropped in estimation in both because WF out gained us and BC kept the game close points wise. If anything, the BC game showed how much better a team has to be than its competition to turn it over 5 times and yet never be in danger of losing which is what happened. WF in part out gained ND because ND had a non-offensive TD and gave up a possession in which it could gain yards. ND COULD have played better, of course, but plenty of other teams have played more poorly in wins but that doesn't seem to affect them.
