College Football Playoff 8 Team CFB Today Bracket Of The Future

College Football Playoff

As this year's College Football Playoff debates continue, we are going to introduce how of our 8 team playoff brackets would work in College Football Today. With the NCAA D2 Football playoff and FCS Playoff successfully completing playoff brackets year in and year out, we feel it is time to start the argument to why we should have a 8 team College Football Playoff system in place.

College Football Playoff Rankings

"The College Football Playoff is not an officially sanctioned championship event by the NCAA, the sport's governing body. The NCAA has never recognized an official national championship for FBS football, instead merely recognizing the decisions made any of a number of independent major championship selectors." -Wiki
A 13 member committee completes this selection process, instead of the BCS computers that used to finish the NCAA FBS Top 25. Because the Tournament only has four teams, this usually creates a cause for concern among power five programs and other less lucrative programs in smaller conferences like UCF. The fact of the matter is, anyone can claim a national title these days and we plan on crowning our champion by influencing all members of every Top 25 committee to do whats right for not only each college football program, but also each individual student-athlete who deserves a shot at the national title.

You talk the talk alright but then apply garbage to paper.

You go to eight team playoff and put three SEC teams in? Three sec teams in and leave out UCF. ?
Four more teams and you still don't have enough respect to put UCF in. That's stupid and ignorant.

The SEC is top heavy and overrated. Very!

This post is a joke.

Nice idea, but another SEC love affair is all it is.

P.s.

I've no prejudice toward SEC. None.

I do however get annoyed by the trendy followers of college football and act like every other team outside the SEC is playing intramural football.

UCF can play with anyone in the country until proven otherwise.
OSU would obliterate LSU. Why? LSU still doesn't have a QB.
WVU would destroy LSU.

I think if/when we get to an 8-team playoff, you'll see all P5 conf champs + highest rated Group of 5 + 2 wild cards. Projections right now would look like this:

SEC: Alabama
ACC: Clemson
B1G: Michigan
Big XII: Oklahoma
PAC-12: Wazzu
Group of 5: UCF
Wild cards: ND, UGA.

Then those 8 would be seeded by their rank so:

1. Alabama vs. 8 UCF
2. Clemson vs. 7. Wazzu
3. ND vs. 6. Oklahoma
4. Michigan vs. 5 UGA

Conference championship games would get a lot more interesting.

When has LSU ever had a QB? Lol. Every year it's the same team: strong defense and special teams, good run game, and a serious lack of a passing game.

I wouldn't mind going to 8. I am NOT in favor of automatic for the 5 power conferences though. 2 loss team should barely be in the conversation at 7 or 8 seed. I am not in favor of a 3 loss team having ANY access to the playoff whatsoever. Regular season has to count for something. I agree with some above though that if you can't get into the top 4 then you need to look at your own season for the reasons why.

Unfortunately, I think a 2 or even 3 loss team getting in would happen. That's why I'm not for it.

What happens if Pitt beats Clemson? What happens if Northwestern beats OSU/Michigan? No thanks to conference champs getting automatic bids.

If we get to 8, it will be because conferences are tired of getting left out and will all want to guarantee themselves a seat at the table. Imagine it were just top 8 this year. If Wazzu loses the Apple Cup or PAC-12 CCG, PAC-12 would have a real shot at getting left out even with 8. Same if the OU-WVU winner then loses to Texas in the Big XII CCG. I don't think the conferences will agree to a deal where 1 might still get left out while the SEC gets four teams in.

Edit: I could actually see a scenario where conf champs don't get an auto bid, but they are required to take the highest ranked team from the conference. That would keep Pitt/NW/etc from taking a bid, but would also render their CCG meaningless other than seeding.

The power 5 conferences would never go for it. That's why we are better staying at 4.

That's my point too. NO WAY do conference champs get automatic bids. Would screw everything up
