A lot of people on here want to blame Kelly again. There were many plays that would have won that game, but I can only think of one on Kelly.
-Kizer fumble cost 3 pts at the end of the half. That's on the players
-False start on the goal line. Players
-Not just running a qb sneak there. On Kelly
-easy drop by goal line by hunter cost a td. Players
-face mask on last drive. Players

Anyone of those plays wins the game. Players were put in position to win by double digit points and did not finish. That's on them. As a whole the coaches did a great job with this team considering all the injuries. Defense definitely must improve but there is a LOT coming back next year to be excited about.

Yes because BVG should have a defense that looks like Bama's regardless of the fact he doesn't have the same talent or depth due to injuries.
no no, not like Alabama, but you gotta be able to defend 25 seconds and 40 yards to win the game.

true... but it helps when your players don't start drives with a personal foul face mask penalty to give up 15 or was that his fault as well?

You score 35, you should win. Ridiculous to think otherwise. Alabama? Seriously, I'd take NWs defense. And does BC get Alabama talent?

No that is not his fault, it's unlucky. But the other blown coverages? For those he gets some of the blame

Van gorder D has confused a lot and in some games I think has hurt us. If we can't seem to get a better handle on it next year I say we adjust or let him go. Offense has rarely been the issue with this team, turnovers can't always be put on coaches and Kelly's offense works our D does need help. We need a strong d lineman we have a group of average players but we need a force up front and haven't had that since tuitt and lynch. You get a d lineman the QBS always watching and we have a game changing defense

The players will not call BVG out and BVG will not call out the players. I mean, didn't we know from early on that ND had no pass rush? Couldn't we see that the Secondary was a major concern early on? Did we all just ignore the huge plays that were given up in virtually every single game due to missed assignments, poor angles, and just plain bad tackling? Didn't the last couple minutes of Georgia Tech raise a red flag to any of us? Me, myself, and I made more than a few comments from the middle of the season and beyond that nothing was going to get better with the "D" and I am no football genius. There was not going to be any magic dust to make these lads better players. If your missing assignments and tackles in game nine, then you are going to miss them in game twelve. And, just to make things more of a bummer, nothing will change for the bowl game, and unless the defense develops a couple of major pass rushers, nothing will change for 2016. Congrats to Josh Adams and DK despite his turnover. These guys are only going to get better. Much much better.

at the start of the season, there were fans that realized the defense would eventually be the Achilles heel
It was also the feeling that ND had the potential to be elite on offense.

both turned out to be the case.

It was a very good season. Hopefully the final regular season 30 seconds will not adversely affect the recruiting effort.

JMO: the defensive higherarchy needs to be re-shuffled. BVG is not getting it done, and I expect he has maximized his level of expertise.

they ain't pros

As a fan who is out of the loop when it comes to attending practice sessions, I can't say whether it's BVG and his staff or the lack of ability of his players. Throughout the season, I have listened to more than one ND media insider who say it's the lack of talent and not the scheme. Even BK himself said that he can't trade or cut any of his players and the kids he has are the kids he has. I also heard him more than once emphasize that his defensive players need to do their job and has addressed the pitiful tackling and blown coverages. Seems like enough evidence to say that it just might be the talent level. I mean , last night alone, there were at least two plays that a DB made no attempt at a tackle when he should have been fully engaged and another time when a DB just stood there and watched as a fellow defensive player was holding a ball carrier upright. No attempt at aiding the tackler or stripping the ball.Just standing there watching. I believe it might have been the same player but I can't remember his number so I won't throw out any name. The important thing is it happened. Nothing will change for the bowl game.

The defense will be much better with 2 new safetys next year. Shumate was OK but the free safety was poor.

Why weren't those safeties playing this year? ND was playing the best they had, but now their beat is gone.

They may be better, but don't assume.
