Great news. One last build to challenge for a naty!
Kelly is the girl everyone told you is great. The one who has no major faults. The one who other guys like. But you know she’s better than most, just not the pinnacle. Doesn’t have Dabo’s smarts, Nick’s legs (consistency), or Riley’s fast break sex appeal (Offense) or Urban’s body (of work)His contract has been extended til 2024. or she'll be stolen away by. . . nobody!
You have to be a pretty “new” ND football fan.lol, BK’s been building for 11 years now. He’s got wins against teams he should beat, embarrassing losses vs teams he should at least be competitive against, with that annual wtf head scratcher game sprinkled in for good measure. Overall, a good coach, but far from great.
You have to be a pretty “new” ND football fan.
Brian Kelly literally, pulled this program out of the trash heap. ND football was a laughingstock prior to Kelly arriving.
Not many college football fans can say they watched their team play for a National championship in the past 10 years.
The past 3 seasons have been 10 plus win seasons. 33-6 the past 3 seasons. 1 loss last year.
If your ultimate measuring stick is a National Championship, you should probably jump ship now.
I am not saying ND will not win a championship with Kelly. However, do you realize how many teams have actually won a championship in the past decade? Only 6 different teams. How about the past 20 years? Only 11.
You will never enjoy the greatness of the rich magnificent tradition of Notre Dame football if your standard is championship or bust.
As a ND fan, I loved the past three seasons. I have decided to sit back and enjoy the ride. There are at 70% of football fans that wish their team had the pay three seasons ND has had.
It is a completely different world now in CFB as opposed to the Devine/Holtz eras.
Your entire comment is full of what-ifs. Stop with the hypotheticals, this isn’t physics. After Ty got off to that lucky 8-0 start, ND from the end of the 2002 season to the end of the 2009 season proceeded to go 48-42 with a 1 bowl win. And let me also remind you that ND went 0-8 vs USC,
ND has gone 34-5 over the last 3 seasons and 1 game. That is Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma territory. Here is another tidbit for the Kelly Haters. If Saban or Meyer could put up that record at ND, they would have taken the job, But they did not. Because they did not have the stones or the confidence,
Kelly could win big at Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State, I do not beiieve Swinney, Saban or Meyer would even have the balls to try at ND, As it pertains to ND. Kelly is the best man for the job, PERIOD, And if you do not think so? You are not a 'new fan". You are an uninformed football ignoramus
Brian Kelly is just as good as Lou.I go way back, and am well aware of the state of the program after the Davie/Willingham/Weiss era’s. I’m not saying Kelly is a bad coach, he’s a very good coach who has gotten the program as far as he can take it. This job is now a premier coaching position again thanks to BK, and he deserves that credit.
I’m also pointing out BK’s biggest flaws. The QB position has been a nightmare his entire tenure, and he has been unable to get that key major bowl victory or win against an elite team.
I’m not expecting championship or bust. I’m asking for a competitive and well prepared team. After all Notre Dame strives for excellence in everything they do right?
Every year we have that one game where the players look completely unprepared and have that deer in the headlights look, and the embarrassing losses.
Also, when are we going to stop lowering the bar and comparing BK to Weis, Ty, and Davie, and start comparing his body of work to Holtz, Devine, Ara, and Leahy?
Holtz and Devine each won 1 championship during their respective stints at ND, is asking for a single championship in 11 years really asking too much? Seriously?
Brian Kelly is just as good as Lou.
- With 10-plus wins in 2012*, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019, Kelly joins Lou Holtz as the only Notre Dame coaches to hit the double-digit mark in wins five times
- With 10-win seasons in four of the last five years, Kelly is the first Irish coach have four seasons of double-digit wins in a five-year stretch since Lou Holtz from 1988-93
- His .735 winning percentage trails only Nick Saban among active FBS coaches with at least 15 years of head coaching experience
One championship does NOT make Lou better than Kelly. Compare the overall record of both coaches. Add Kelly at Cincy and Lou at Arkansas.
Most idiotic post ever.Brian Kelly is just as good as Lou.

Kelly and Holtz are no way comparable. The 10 win season metric isn't even comparable when more games are played each season compared to Holtz years.
Also the schedule has significantly been watered down for Kelly. Kelly would probably be a 6-5 coach if he had the schedules during Holtz years.
Holtz won several major bowls to Kelly's zero.
There is absolutely no comparison. You should delete your post if you have any common sense.
Nope. Not a hater. There's not much I agree with Holtz politically. This has everything to do with football.Oh STFU, you lousy hater.
Seriously, why are you a ND fan? And guess what, Lou Holtz is going to be completely dis-associated and dis-affiliated from ND, on account of what a low-brow crank he is, and an embarrassment, a downright embarrassment. They're gonna take his statue down too. That's clearly all you give a shit about.
And BK will live on eventually as ND's all-time winningest coach, with Holtz basically stricken from the record completely, because he's such a reprehensible kook. How you like that?

I don't think he's on a par with Holtz. We were dominant on an elite level for about five years with Holtz.
And I would also say as someone who has pretty much unconditional love for my dream coach BK, he has been something of a disappointment, at least to me. We all know what the haters think needless to say. But for me, I was hoping for what we've had these last two seasons really, as the Brandon Wimbush season was kind of flukish and not typical for BK at all, but ever since Book has taken over that's pretty much what I was hoping for.
That's what I was cherishing as a ND fan, that BK would be the next great coach, win at least one title, get a statue, and in order to do that all we needed was to perform the way we have the last two seasons for all ten seasons, and that didn't happen whatsoever. It's been a roller coaster, with some very high moments, like getting to the title game vs Bama, but he did not re-create with any consistency what he had going at UC. And that's what I wanted, what I naturally based all my fondest hopes on, and that's what we're finally getting now in years 9, 10 and hopefully year 11 as well.
So whatever grudges a fan/hater might hold against BK, which I can at least acknowledge if not sympathize with, now is not the time to fire him. We're finally clicking. 2024 sounds just about right. Hopefully we get to the playoff one more go-round between now and then. And hopefully we keep Clark Lea a couple more years.
Oh STFU, you lousy hater.

So according to your rules anyone critical of a head coach can’t be a fan? The school and program are bigger than BK sorry.
You’ve lost your mind. Kelly has never won a big game except Oklahoma in 12. Lou won many. The comparison stops thereBrian Kelly is just as good as Lou.

I did NOT say Kelly is better than Lou.
I said Kelly is just as good as Lou.
I stand by that statement. Kelly has one of the highest winning percentages of all current coaches.
If Kelly can bring a championship to ND, he will without a doubt be considered one of the best coaches ND has ever had.
To me, even without a championship, Kelly is one of the best coaches to ever coach at ND. Definitely top 5.
You guys wanna bring up “big games”? That is fair.
How about also bring up the fact Kelly has made ND a power house while dominating rivals like SC and Stanford Who are now in shambles.
Also, how many programs are in a better place than where Kelly has this program?
Clemson
Alabama
Ohio State
LSU
I would love to play the Sooners and see who is better.
Unlike you, I don’t wear rose colored glasses when it comes to BK. Again, he is a very good coach, and has done a great job bringing the program back. He’s made the ND coaching position desirable again, and deserves major credit for these accomplishments. But, He’s reached his limit. We all know there won’t be a championship with BK as head coach, and I’m not expecting it. It would be nice if he could win a few major bowl games, a playoff game, and beat an elite team. If that’s too much to ask then the bar has been lowered more than I originally thought.
“....for being such an asshole...”Whatever, I don't wear rose-colored glasses. I don't even know what you mean by that. You mean I'm not obsessively hypercritical, and I just like to watch the games and cheer for the team and have a good, fun, positive time with it, and not scowl and grind my teeth, especially when we're doing so well. For like the first time since the two good Weis years, since Lou Holtz pretty much. It's surreal being around so many fans that are so critical. I mean I get that football fans are like that, but not when we're winning! That's what so incredible to me about it. We went 12-0 and made the playoff, with Ian Book as our QB, after replacing Brandon Wimbush who was like one of the worst passers I've ever seen. Then we follow it up with an 11-2 year. You'd think there'd be jubilation. Nope....
And actually I don't have anything against Holtz, I was just trying to piss you off. I don't want them to take his statue down, and I assume they won't. I mean I hate Donald Trump and all that, and obviously Holiz being such a provocative right-winger is not my thing. But other than that, I don't have any opinion on it. He was already kind of a laughingstock among non-ND fans, what with his lisp and all that. He just looks even more like a crotchety old man now that's he acting like such a kooky MAGA supporter. But whatever floats his boat.
And naturally BK is not on the same level as Holtz as far as their respective ND careers. Or at least I certainly wouldn't say so. But BK is on a hot streak! So we'll see what the next few years bring. And let me apologize for being such an asshole today. Obviously I'm not going to keep this up all season long, but I was stuck indoors from the smoke, and the haters were out in force today! And after a perfectly decent win to start out this crazy coronavirus season. I just never get used to it. All Ian Book has done for ND.... And he's not done yet!
“....for being such an asshole...”
The only thing you’ve said that’s made any sense on this board.
He has a much better staff than in his earlier years (Balis included) But he still has some question marks on the staff. Quinn, Alexander, Joseph and Rees still have more to prove, some coaching and some in recruiting. If we upgrade there, we might be on to something big. Or if they pick it up/improveCoach Kelly has done a tremendous job in making ND relevant again. I'm pretty sure when the opening came up that Kelly, by far, was the best available, realistic, coach available.
He now has his best staff/recruiters with the big question being Rees. (I loved Elko tho) Kelly's career will depend on how that hire works out.
I was hoping ND would go in another direction instead of allowing him to retool his staff as I'm in the camp that he had taking ND as far as he can.
You're right about Balis....probably his smartest hire! Quinn should be gone if the line play does not improve significantly with so many starters/experience returning. Joseph is a mystery lol. Alexander is average to me. By hiring an unproven Rees as his OC over a few of the great young OC's that were available, Kelly rolled the dice on his legacy. It was a ballsy call.He has a much better staff than in his earlier years (Balis included) But he still has some question marks on the staff. If the Holtz era were going on today, in the age of social media, many in our fan base would be ripping him for managing only one national championship in a stretch of five or six years where he arguably had the best players and team in the country.
