My concern as a fan is MZ's health throughout Fall camp and the season. There is no Tommy Rees waiting in the wings. The news about EG is crushing. I would feel the same exact way if EG was staying and MZ was the one who was leaving.
My guess is Kelly knew that if Golson graduated he would transfer. Golson brought us to a national title game and gradutes from notre dame. Congrats and good luck. This is par for the course nowadays. Worked out pretty well for Russell Wilson. Zaire will be ready and no split locker room. This is for the best.

MZ plays physical football, at some point Kizer or Wimbush will have to play.

MVG looked a lot better than Kizer. Brilliant in fact. Just a few snaps but the kid is a player.
First of all you can't play 8 in the box vs 3WR 1 TE and 1 RB. Unless you play 0 coverage and with ND's deep and talented WR corps it's unlikely ND will see 0 coverage.
Of course V Tech and Bud Foster caught Meyer by surprise with 0 coverage vs OSU and sprung the upset. However, once OSU cleaned up their pass protection and got the ball down the field, they never saw that strategy again.
Teams played split safeties and OSU's run game began to take hold, BUT only after they cleaned out the box with the forward pass. Many folks on here talk about OSU like they are an old Wishbone team, they have game breakers all over the field and can effectively pass the ball. Otherwise that run game would look like it did against V Tech. Terrible.
