Pretty amazing a kid can be ranked 96th at his position and jump to a top 200 player in the country after a 7 on 7 camp which includes no pads... hmm. Makes me wonder about the evaluation process a bit. No new film has been released of him actually playing football but basically combine-esque performances improved his rivals ranking dramatically.

He is apparently quite the athlete for his size. I agree though that the whole evaluation/rating system is a joke.

Claypool would likely have never been a 3 star to begin with if he was playing football in CA, FL, or Texas for example. He comes from a place where virtually no one gets recruited and competes against very weak competition. The camps gave him an opportunity to showcase his skills against future division 1 athletes. Because he's a WR, you really don't need to see him in pads to get a sense of what kind of potential he has. You can easily see in his camp films that he is explosive and athletic, especially for his size. I'm very excited about ND getting him and I can't imagine any corner will like lining up across from him.

I don't think it's as much that he's way better than everyone thought, it's that they just had so little data on him originally, and now they at least have something to go on..
